I’ve got as much chance of directing a film as Herman Cain has of becoming black.
When did black stop being a description of race and instead become a description of political ideology?

  2. When Cain called most black people brainwashed and stated proudly that he sat in the back of the bus during the Civil Rights movement among many other things.

    And his pizza sucks.

  3. GeoHaberberger says:

Not every black person actively participated in the Civil Rights movement. Did you? If you were too young, did your parents?

Cain's father instructed him to "stay in school, get an education and stay out of trouble." Seems a bit harsh to deny him his race because he listened to his father.

I understand the implication you are making. Cain is a "good Negro". Someone who doesn't make waves. To be truly black, you have to be an activist. If Cain is the kind of black man that whites feel comfortable with, what is Obama? A lot of white people voted for him. I know quite a few people who voted for Obama because he was black and wasn't Jesse Jackson.

    • I was too young but my family including my mother and grandmother participated. In fact my cousin met his wife during the march on Washington.

      His white wife.

You stated that I think 'Cain is a "good Negro". Someone who doesn't make waves. To be truly black, you have to be an activist.'

      Really now?

My family is FULL of white people. They are not white to me-they are family. So I'd be careful about grouping me into any box where you think you KNOW how I think as a Black man. My favorite movie is 'My Best Friend's Wedding.'

      Not very black is it?

Cain had every right to sit in the back of the bus.

It's my opinion that great leaders lead great lives. "Give me liberty or give me death." That's the words of a leader and a troublemaker. yes-Mr.Cain wanted to stay out of trouble.

The United States Of America was built on troublemakers. For Cain to sit quietly in the back of the bus during one of if not THE most important moment in African American history is NOT the actions of a future President Of The U.S.A.

BUT! I'll give him a pass on that.

To say NOW as a Black Man running for President that he does not regret his actions and seems proud of them is akin to Bush saying; "Yes, I avoided the draft and I'm PROUD I did so."

Cain in effect said just that so NO pass on that.

I was going to vote for Clinton until Obama changed my mind. I vote candidate not party. I know you will find that hard to believe but I do. If Colin Powell were running for President against Obama in 2008 I most likely would have voted for Powell because of his foreign policy experience.

However-it looks like Obama has done pretty well in that department.

About black people voting for Obama because he was black. HOW is that different than people NOT voting for Obama because he was black?

Black people in the USA: 12%
White people in the USA: 72%

      Do the math.

Lastly-I have great respect for anyone who wants to debate and at least consider the other persons point of view. I may disagree with you but I do respect you.

Your posts are indeed welcome and I DO consider your point of view. I'd like you to consider this-why are so many Black people anti-Cain?

  4. George Haberberger says:

    MIchael,

I think so many black people are anti-Cain is because he is a conservative and the default setting for most black people is liberal, at least in some social issues. That said, I think a lot of blacks are conservative on issues like gay-marriage and abortion.

Maybe you misunderstood my point in the previous post. I wasn't talking about black people voting for Obama because he was black. I was talking about white people voting for Obama because he was black. I know a lot of whites who didn't care what Obama's policies were, It didn't matter to them. Geradine Ferraro said that Obama wouldn't be where he was in the polls if he wasn't black. People wanted to be part of an historic election in which a black man became president. I can understand the desire. I wish I could have voted for him but his strict Pro-Choide stance was deal breaker for me.

Also it may seem like I am all aboard the Cain bandwagon but truthfully I haven't made up my mind. I only posted initially because you wanted to deny Cain his race and I asked when "black" became a description of political ideology instead of race. If Romey or Perry came out on some issue that made them appear to NOT be completely behind the accepted white position, (whatever that is), would that even be something they were criticized for?

    • "If Romey or Perry came out on some issue that made them appear to NOT be completely behind the accepted white position, (whatever that is), would that even be something they were criticized for? "

      Point taken.

I'm sure there are black people who don't like Cain because he is so far on the Right. I personally don't like him because of his views and his consistence theme of 'Black people should know better.' I also don't want his hand on the button when he clearly has no idea what a big deal that is.

George-I've love to continue this with you and perhaps we can over at: michaeldavisworld.com where pop culture meets politics ( P L U G ) but Comicmix fired me once (because I was black) so I'd better get back to the comic book side of life.

So-in a fight who would win, Superman or the Hulk?
