Animal Man is definitely my favorite of the rebooted books so far. I love the family focus (something Lemire has done excellently in books like “The Essex Country Trilogy”) and I found the horror turn about halfway through totally unexpected. Foreman’s art takes a bit of warming up to, I think, but it seems like it should work really well with the tone of this series. I’m really looking forward to more of this book.

(my other favorites, BTW: Batwoman, Swamp Thing, Batgirl, Resurrection Man)

Re: Mr. Terrific – surprised to read you liked that so. It was a little too psuedo-scientific/ridiculous for me.

I’m surprised that Mike took the chronology of Animal Man from Carmine Infantino directly to the new Animal Man 2.1. There’s no mention of the impact of the Grant Morrison revival or of Jamie Delano’s darker, morbid Animal Man that was one of the flagships of the early Vertigo line. Is the new Animal Man a RESET, back to the original lighter Animal Man? Or are there shades of the brooding menace, horror and meta-fiction of the Animal Man revival and Vertigo years?
