  1. I’ve seen worse. Reminded me a bit of HOT SHOTS! when I first watched it. If they actually pulled off a sequel, I’d see it.

I still haven’t seen it yet, although I still might. I can tell you that what turned me off of the film initially was all the CG. The costumes, all of the aliens, OA… I understand that all of the ring’s constructs would need it, but practical effects would have gone a long way towards pulling me in on opening day.

And I think that Ryan Reynolds would have made a better Kyle Rayner that a Hal Jordan.

The costume looks gay and fake. That`s why it failed!

I heard the studio got way too involved in this one and the director said that parallax was supposed to be a surprise at the end not the main villain. Hector Hammond was supposed to be more of a villain I guess a lot more evil than he was in the movie. From what I understand there might be a Director’s Cut that goes along those lines. Would be great to see. I thought the movie was ok, but not as good as Thor or Iron Man. If they put 200 million into this movie the only place it showed was with Oa and the computer generated cast and even some of that seemed shoddy. I thought the actor who played Hammond was great though the poorly done yellow eyes effect bothered me reminded me of Thiller, though it was obviously done with CG this time. Blake Lively wasn’t all that bad, but what bothered me most is they made her a pilot. Yeah I’ve read GL since I was 5 and I don’t recall Carol Ferris ever being a pilot, but maybe I could be wrong. Mark Strong was awesome at playing Sinestro, I just wish they did more with him. Michael Clark Duncan as Kilowog? Eh not my choice but whatever. The kid who played Tom was pretty good. Tomar Re and Abin Sur great. Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan? Actually when he was being Hal Jordan and playing the hero he was great and I actually saw Hal Jordan come out. When he was joking and quipping like Spider-man it was Ryan Reynolds and I couldn’t get past it until near the end of the movie. I have nothing against Ryan Reynolds I think he has the potential to become a great dramatic actor if he wanted to, it just seems like he enjoys the playing in boring romantic comedies, and being the likeable Dane Cook. For the most part though I think the casting director didn’t know what the hell they were doing. It seemed like they were just casting anyone. I like Tim Robbinson he’s in my favorite movie Shawshank, but anytime I see him in a movie as a Senator or whatever I can’t get out of my mind that he was the president in Austin Powers. Plus it just seemed to me like he wasn’t taking the role seriously like he was doing someone a favor. Angel Basset was good as Waller. The actor who played Carl Ferris didn’t do it for me. For some reason I don’t see Carl Ferris as this everyman business man with his sleeves rolled up. The Actor who played Hal’s father was pretty good, but the scene where the accident happens seems way too rushed like it was a last minute thought and so was the scene with Hal’s family. It just seemed like they needed filler and through it together at the last minute. I think this could have been a way better movie. It could have been this decades Superman, but when writers and studios finally figure out that not every single superhero is a Spiderman rip off and take the genre more seriously (at least in DC case) we’re going to keep getting 200 million dollar sub-par movies. Maybe Johns should have tapped his mentor Donner to direct this one. I hope Snyder has better luck with Superman.
