There’s just no polite way to say this.

Corcoran, you suck. Your mind set is warped. Anyone who thinks violence and assassination are the way to get politicians you don’t agree with out of office is three fries short of a Happy Meal. Under NO circumstances is that EVER an acceptable answer. I don’t care what your political POV is, I don’t care what sins you lay at the feet of the Democrats or any other party. NOTHING that they have done, or can do, is justification for this.

If you don’t understand that, then check yourself into a mental ward and remove yourself from civilized society until you are able to grasp that basic fact.

That’s just a shameful things to say, even if it’s a joke. Worse if he’s serious.

There is no words to describe how much I despise people like this.

Oh there are words, Christopher. I could easily think of some vile hateful things to say about this scumbag, and I strongly doubt that any sane person would say I’m out of bounds (this time), but I’m getting tired of this. After the recent compassionate and heartfelt pleas to a return to rational discourse by Mssrs. Keith Olbermann and Jon Stewart, I have to remember what Gandhi said, “An eye for an eye only makes the world blind.”

However what can we do about such an inhuman thug like Travis Corcoran? Well if you need to find a graphic novel, t-shirt, or some other comic book merchandise, not only buy it from a rational merchant, but contact Travis Corcoran and let him know that because of his beliefs, he has lost your potential custom, and you are going to encourage others to shun him as well. He may not understand rational discourse, but I’m sure he can and will understand financial ruin.

If I want to buy a comic, graphic novel, and other related merchadise I’ll go to my local comic book stores first and deal with an internet comic store last. I like to support my local ecomomy as much as I can.

That being said, as much as I respect and have great admeration for Keith Olbermann, Jon Stewart, and Ghandi. There is another saying that I believe in “sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.” I’ve tried being reasonable, nice, and polite and it’s not working! How many times do Liberals and Progessives in this country have asked the Teabaggers, Wingnuts, to dial it down because it would ultimately lead to the tradgey in Tuscon? How many times?
        1, 2, 100, 1000 times? I’ve lost count.

We have asked politely, hell we have damn neared begged them just to tone it down on, do they? No. They don’t. Because in their mindset and worldview that is a sign of weakness. Guys like this Corcoran are so filled with hatred you can’t reason with them.

I’m a child of the 80s and I think the reason why there is so much anti-governement has been because for the last 30-40 years we’ve been told that the governement is the enemy. In the last 30 years how many movies, tv shows, comics, and video games have protrayed the governemet as a force of evil and how many have protrayed the governement as a force for good? The latter so many it’s beyond counting the former I can think of one G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero (and even in the Marvel Comics there were shadowy group at the Pentagon called the Jugglers that usally up to no good).

The Right Wing news media and its echo chamber, the Left wing news media and its echo chamber and both left wing and right wing pop culture have equally created this mess.

  7. Luigi Novi says:

God, Glenn, why would you give this guy any attention?

    • Jonathan (the other one) says:

In order to drive even more custom away from his online shop, Luigi. I don’t generally keep up on the behind-the-scenes of comicdom, relying on people like the good folks here at ComicMix to keep an eye on things and tell me what’s important. Had it not been for this post, I might well have accidentally given money to this man, which he could then use to further promote a viewpoint with which I entirely disagree!

He has the right to spew such hatred; he does not have the right to spew it unopposed, or without consequence.

    • Glenn Hauman says:

To shame him, and to alert existing and potential customers. And possibly his neighbors.

I usually have all sorts of fire & brimstone reserved for events like this. This time I just feel numb. This entire thing is just sad, and sadder still is the 9 year old who showed up to meet her Congresswoman because she had an interest in government.

    Sad.

    • Wayne D. Chang says:

While I would never diminish the tragedy of a 9-year-old as opposed to the other five casualties, it should be said that this is the kind of horror one usually hears about during wartime or in armed conflict. A death is a death is a death no matter how old, how close to home, or how far away.

The most we can hope for is to understand in context just what was going on in this skidmark’s head when he planned for this and put his plan in motion. He should be studied to hopefully better identify similar insane people in the future. I’m not gonna lie – I would love to see this guy die by inches painfully. I would also like to divest myself of such wishes for reciprocity.

As far as Travis Corcoran is concerned, we need to draw more light on this scumbag for trying to profit from this tragedy by bringing his penny ante store to the limelight. He is a parasite. It is not worth my time to try and engage him in a discussion so that hopefully he can understand that his words were incredibly divisive, hurtful, and morally reprehensible. I would simply settle for running this bastard out of business. If he wants to put his business in the context of being pro- political assassination, then may he enjoy seeing his business dwindle away into dust.

“Police in Arlington, MA this week seized a “large amount” of weapons and ammunition from local businessman Travis Corcoran after he wrote a blog post threatening U.S. lawmakers in the wake of the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ). In a post on his blog (which has since been removed) titled “1 down and 534 to go” – 1 referring to Giffords and 534 referring to the rest of the House of Representatives – Corcoran applauded the shooting of Giffords and justified the assassination of lawmakers because he argued the federal government has grown far beyond its constitutional limits. “It is absolutely, absolutely unacceptable to shoot indiscriminately. Target only politicians and their staff and leave regular citizens alone,” he wrote in the post.

“We certainly take this as a credible threat,” Arlington police Captain Robert Bongiorno told reporters,…”
