On sale today: ‘Jon Sable Freelance: Ashes of Eden’ #4!
For those who came in
late: Jon Sable has been
hired by a businessman to deliver both a rare, valuable diamond and a beautiful
yet troublesome woman from Africa to New York City. He’s done that, he’s back
home, and he’s reconnected with old friends and flames.
Last issue, Jon
attended Prinsloo’s party for the Maguffin Diamond and, wouldn’t you know it,
everyone’s favorite thief Maggie the Cat was hanging out. While Jon and Maggie
were back at her hotel getting … you know, reacquainted … someone stole the rock.
Compelled to return
to the scene of the crime, Jon is ambushed on his way to keep his date at the
annual Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting ceremony… and things promise to go much worse for him.
Mike Grell on story and art, John Workman on letters, yours truly on colors and Mike Gold waving a baton.
Wow I will be buying TWO comics in one week !! maybe three as Grell's Warlord might be out this week too :)
Warlord is out this week, and it's worth it! The only DC book I buy (and the only I've ever subscribed to).As a big Mike Grell fan, I regret overlooking Jon Sable in the 80s because (I remember telling people) I'm not into "adventure books" but I've been loving Ashes of Eden. I have purposely avoided reading it here on the site so the print copies will be new to me.
Was a huge fan of JSF back in the day, and see ASHES OF EDEN as a true return to form. However…what is up with the less-than-dynamic covers? The art inside is some of the best work Grell has ever done. The covers, on the other hand, just look amateurish. There's nothing about them at all to pull in new readers. They are a disservice. My two cents.
Um…I could swear that Sable figure is a photo with a Sable head drawn over the original.
My comic shop didn't have this or Grimjack today; the store manager claimed neither was on Diamond's release date for today. What gives, I need my Jon Sable and Grimjack. :(
