‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ debuts with $87 million opening weekend
It takes more than swine flu and Internet piracy to keep our boy down.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine clawed (sorry) its way to an $87 million opening weekend, despite being widely available online a full month before its release, lukewarm reviews and Vice President Joe Biden to avoid confined and crowded spaces. The movie opening numbers beat the first two X-Men installments (although not the third) and it’s looking like Logan’s run (sorry again) in theaters is going to be pretty strong this summer.
So, does this kill the “Internet piracy is bad for you” meme once and for all? Yeah, I didn’t think so either.
Well, the argument will be that it might have opened higher without the leak. Impossible to prove, of course, but that could be the contention. All you need do is find a single person who states, "I saw the leaked version and decided to skip the theater," declare that that one person represents a few thousand people who were of the same opinion, and there you go.PAD
Actually heard a reviewer on YouTube say he wished he had watched the leaked version and saved the money he spent going to the theatre. No matter how you feel about the final version (and I enjoyed it, with some reservations) at least do the 'right' thing. Piracy is piracy and it really isn't right to support theft.
