Live Journal Scans_Daily shut down
The message on Live Journal is very simple:
Error
This journal has been suspended.
And with that, it’s gone and the comics community has changed.
And before anyone asks, no, Peter David isn’t responsible for drawing attention to the powers that be any more than Dirk Deppey is responsible for posting a link to it almost every day for years in a news publication. If you post enough stuff on there and you don’t own the copyright, your foot shall slide in due time; sooner or later you will get noticed and the hammer will fall.
Before you ask, yes, I posted stuff to scans_daily to promote The Original Johnson, because it’s a large community of readers. But ComicMix controls the rights to the book and used it for promotion.
I hope that scans_daily can reconstitute, but remember, to stay outside the law, you gotta be honest.
If any of the group administrators would like to contact us to comment or for an interview, please feel free.
"..to live outside the law…" actually.
Yep, I misquoted. Didn't want to infringe Mr. Dylan's copyright, after all.
I think that'd prolly be "fair Use".
Just been to PAD's site to read the 204 (when i got there) comments.Amazing how many people who can't read plain English have been taking PAD to task for something he didn't did. It's also amazing, as one of the posters – Jerry Chandler, i think – said, how many people who have probably never actually looked at the law are rushing to lecture us on "fair use".
As of 9:25pm, the commentators are just a few shy of 250 posts.
A brand new day. The website has started anew (see below). But they're still talking about it on David's site, with the post count now past the 350 mark!
No kidding. I'm upgrading as fast as I can here…
http://asylums.insanejournal.com/scans_daily/ has already started up.
Any bets on how long it stays up, given that Marvel has, apparently, officially taken notice of this sort of thing?
I was one of the mods on scans_daily.If you want to drop me a line I'll see what I can do.I'm also trying to keep the community together on noscans_daily, which will be no pictures, just words. We're trying to keep the guys together and share what we liked about scans_daily (that it was a funny, relatively intelligent place to discuss old and new comics) without, you know, having comics scans.
Gleen – what have you done with Peter's blog now?My old link goes to GoDaddy, and the link above says: "Sorry, we can't find the page at this time. http://www.comicmix.com/news/2009/02/28/live-jour… 66.168.197.89 /archives/006775.html peterdavid.malibulist.com Opera/9.63 (Windows NT 6.1; U; en) Presto/2.1.1 404" or, alternatively, is says:"Sorry, we can't find the page at this time. (none) 66.168.197.89 /archives/006775.html peterdavid.malibulist.com Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/1.0.154.48 Safari/525.19 404"You realise that the S_D Whining Wankers® will claim that he's hiding his page in shame or (depending on the particular Whining Wanker®), that PAD has fled in terror from their Just Retribution!
Had to migrate the site, site volume was getting ugly and things were beginning to break– this was the capper. The DNS is updating, but http://www.peterdavid.net should work fine at this time.At least, current pieces are up and functional. The first few years of the site are coming overnight. (We're talking about 90MB of posts and comments over 7 years or so.)Besides, I was waiting for some bozo to claim that he took down Peter's site as an act of revenge. (Not to say some folks weren't trying…)
Heaven forbid the OWNERS of the IP actually want to protect their work. If they don't want excessive amounts of their work being posted, it is their right to dictate that, not anyone else. If lack of exposure on the internet hurts sales, then that's on them, but others shouldn't take it upon themselves to violate copyright law and then justify it. Perhaps if people actually, oh I don't know, contact the owners and ask permission before doing more than just the usual page or two.
