Also included in the Wold Newton mythos are many of the Western characters of British author J.T.Edson, and his "Bunduki" – Tarzan's adopted nephew (i think). The River doesn't just "circle the world", it loops back and forth for an effective length of somethig like a million miles.Farmer did, indeed, win the contest he wrote it for with the first version of "Riverworld", but the organisers defaulted on the prize money, which Farmer had been counting on, leading to a major setback in his writing career.

I've enjoyed a good number of his books. Not every one hit me right. But when he connected, he really did the job. I think my favorite is still A FEAST UNKNOWN.

Phil wasn't always on the mark, but when he hit, it was dead on. He did a mosaic mystery novel with a whole bunch of others called Naked Came The Farmer, which is about the last thing of his I read. Weird and funny. Naked chick on a motorcycle and a pumpkin cannon. Phil was capable of turning out some wild stuff, and still being readable. And he was a nice guy. I'm gonna miss him.Miles

Considering he wrote himself in as a character… (Didn't use his real name, just one with the same initials; guess he was afraid he'd sue.) As two characters, if i recall correctly – one that was really him and one that was a ringer.
