Torchwood’s John Barrowman on new show on BBC America
Waiting for the new season of Torchwood to start? Jonesing for more Captain Jack Harkness? We have something that might tide you over…
BBC America has just picked up a new musical theater reality series featuring John Barrowman, who plays Captain Jack. Any Dream Will Do, with eleven 90 minute episodes, will chronicle the search for a new male talent to play Joseph in the West End revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Graham Norton hosts the series which also showcases Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Any Dream Will Do makes its U.S. premiere on March 29 at 8 PM– and if that’s not enough for you, it will be followed by a one-hour special The Making of Me: John Barrowman.
All right, you fans of Jack/John… get going.
Boy, I really like John Barrowman but I would poke my eyes out with a stick before watching this. Eleven 90 minute episodes featuring Andrew Lloyd "I almost single-handedly ruined Broadway" Webber and his God-awful music. Maybe I would need to put the stick into my ears as well.
Hey, I like Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
De gustibus non est disputandum.
"You can't fight fat people?" (It was either that or a quote from Johnny Dangerously; "De gustibus, You gustibus, We missed da bus…")Seriously tho, I'm at a loss as to why this would be at all of interest to Americans, save for the Barrowman content. The American version of "You're the one that I want" didn't exactly fly off the shalves, AFAIK, and this is (apparently) an old show as Kurt says below (http://www.bbc.co.uk/joseph/ )Having said that, I imagine I would watch John Barroman eat soup. He hosted a travel special some time back that I sat through solely to see him in a kilt. (Worth it.) He's got a smile that lights up a room. He tops my "I'm not gay, but…" list. (Oh come on, we all have one.) I look forward to seeing how the USA figures out how to bring him over here. Apparently he was almost the lead in "Will and Grace" but he lost it because he was too straight. I believe they will be updating the definition of "Irony" in the OED any time now.
Glenn's not fat. Are you saying I am?
I like the musical as well, but I do not want to watch any TV series that has a "search for a … talent." A definite pass for me.
Well, i like the original recording on Joseph – the one with the chorus from the secondary school for whom it was written and by whom it was first performed. All subsequent versions suffer from Lloyd Webber's Sybndrome – akin to elephantiasis, but with gaudy trim and tasteless embellishments.
Don't rubbish what you don't know about! This was a hugely entertaining show that is well worth watching, belated or not. It was the process that was intriguing, and it was both seriously amusing and dramatic by turns. And to those who actually have open minds, Andrew Lloyd Webber was a bit of a revelation. I think he was more surprised than anyone, but although there will always be people who get off on being negative, he did himself a power of good with this.
well this show is over 2 years old and ran as 2 separate hours then half hours episodes each week——another reason why downloads are so much better than the johny-come-lately- bbc americaand to be fair the competitors pon this show are all better then every single one of the finalists on every season of American Idol
