I always thought Mark had that 'growing up to look like Dick Cheney' thing going on.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Here's my nifty story about Mark Waid. For three years in a row, I ended up shoulder to shoulder with Mr. Waid at the Chicago Comicon, generally on the dealer floor. Mr. Waid was looking for Scrooge McDuck comics, and me, being the silly over eager fan boy couldn't contain myself. So each year, without fail, I would politely tap his shoulder, and then blurt out words that barely could be assembled into a question. "Uhh… I loved uh… Empire…. are you fighting with Alex Ross over the rights to Kingdom Come?, and uhh… how did you break into comics? You see I–" … and other horrible gems like that. And each time, he'd poke me in the eye, knee me in the stomach, and place his foot on my chest as I lay on the dirty con floor. "You DARE ask King Waid such a question?! Feh! I will ensure you never so much as ink a single panel of my brilliance! What is you name, you pathetic fool?!""Kyle sir… Kyle Gnepper." Whew. He'll never know it was me.
