Wolverine and the X-Men premiering January 23 on Nicktoons
The half-hour series Wolverine and the X-Men will finally make its US premiere on Nicktoons Network with back-to-back episodes on Friday, January 23, 8-9 pm. Produced by Marvel Animation, Wolverine and the X-Men will air regularly Fridays at 8p. The network also launches the new tie-in website, areyouamutant.com, on Tuesday, January 20, where fans can check their DNA for mutant genes, which will let them into the Xavier Institute for Gifted Youngsters where they can visit various rooms, watch replays of the series, and play a game called Wolverine and the X-Men: Sentinel Slash.
Get those kids exposed to slash fiction while they’re young, I always say– then we can move them up to Hellfire Club costumes and really have some fun.
Additionally, content from the series will be available on TurboNick and via Nickelodeon’s wireless platforms. The series will also have a dedicated category in Nick’s VOD offering from January 19.
I'm looking forward to this. The series in the 90s was pretty decent, and even "Evolution" won me over at times. This one looks to be interesting, minus Beast's hideous costume. Combine this with Spectacular Spider-Man, and Batman: Brave and the Bold… and you have a seriously good set (potentially) of toons.
The only problem is that the geniuses have scheduled it against Batman:B&B on Fridays.
First let me say that the post you're about to read was actually written back in December about Spider-Man's new network and the reason I'm posting it here is because, apparently the "Powers That Be" at Comicmix had the incredible foresight NOT to post my message back in December, so I'm posting it here as it also pertains to the new X-Men cartoon as well. The first response is to Comicfreaks whining and complaining about Teletoon broadcasting Spider-Man and X-Men before Nicktoons and Disney XD do, here's the post:Don’t blame Teletoon, YTV or any other Canadian corporation for broadcasting shows before other countries do, blame the American companies for not broadcasting these shows right away. If Teletoon doesn’t want to wait for Disney XD to broadcast Spider-Man, then I say good for them. I wouldn’t wait around for them to broadcast Spider-Man either. Take your frustrations out on the Nicktoons and Disney XD’s of the world for why other countries are broadcasting shows before them. Write to Nicktoons and Disney XD if you have a problem for why other countries are broadcasting shows before them and ask them to broadcast them sooner.Next is a response to Vinnie Bartilucci's excellent post about the powers of the internet allows people to watch shows far in advance before the other countries have a chance to broadcast them. Take a look:Vinnie Bartilucci your post is full of intelligence. It also doesn’t help that Disney is putting Spider-Man on a network that most cable companies don’t have instead of a network that everybody has like ABC, not to mention that cable companies that do have Disney XD most likely has it as a premium channel (ala HBO) and most people are not gonna pay premium just to watch one show. The same rules apply to the new X-Men and Iron Man cartoons as Viacom has both shows scheduled to be on Nicktoons (again most cable companies don’t carry Nicktoons) instead of CBS where the ratings would be higher. As you said Vinnie the ratings are not even gonna come close to the ratings Spider-Man had on CW…let alone the 1990’s edition on FOX.The next message is the classic Weisman vs. Semper Jr. debate of who had the better Spider-Man cartoon:Oh and if Spider-Man survives and makes it to a 3rd season but they end up losing Greg Weisman to another company, I say bring back John Semper Jr. back any way you can as I always preferred him to Weisman anyway, although Weisman’s doing pretty well right now, I’ll admit that but not as well as Semper Jr. since he is the master of the Spider-Man cartoon. Keep your fingers crossed and good luck to Spider-Man’s 2nd season.Sorry Weisman fans but I think as well as he's doing right now, Semper nailed down those storylines with pure excellence I mean compare John's Alien Costume arc to Greg's and John's version completely annihilates Greg's version easily. The problem is that John's staff did such an excellent job (censorship or not) with the storylines that it's gonna be near impossible for somebody with the caliber of Greg Weisman (or even Semper Jr. himself if they bring him back) to topple the 1990's version. I mean ask yourself this do you think that Weisman can do a better X-Men episode? Or how about a better Man-Spider arc? Daredevil episode? Doctor Strange? Secret Wars? and especially a better Spider Wars arc? I'm not knocking Weisman or anything but I'd say that's a tall order to fill and so far I'd say that Weisman has failed to surpass Semper's excellence so far with the exception of Spider-Man's origin. So my point is that Weisman is doing good right now but John Semper is overall better and I'd personally love to see him come back and write some more Spider-Man stories, I'm especially interested in his wild and crazy idea of having the Carnage Symbiote bond with Jack the Ripper in the 1800's, something Weisman wished he could dream of. So at the end of the day the bottom line is this: If Greg Weisman finds another job after his contract with Sony expires later this month, I'm not gonna cry in my sleep because it leaves the door open for John Semper Jr.'s return if we are lucky and if John comes back we can expect even BETTER Spider-Man stories than Weisman's putting out right now! Keep your fingers crossed. And finally I hope the new X-Men cartoon does well but it's gonna be tough when people have seen it already online combined with the fact that it's gonna be on a network that most people don't have, so keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best. And with that I have run out of things I'd like to say and will end this message right now.Message posted by: ScottKeithownsHauman
