BBC Launches ‘Doctor Who’ Advent Calendar
Today is marked by many faiths as the beginning of Advent and once again, the BBC’s official Doctor Who website has their Advent calendar now live. Today’s treat is a video message from David Tennant and something new will be available between today and Christmas.
As much as look forward to seeing this feature every year, the BBC's crack down on pirated video has put a big damper on activities at the web site.I can appreciate their need and desire to protect copyrighted material, and thus can understand restricting access to any actual episode footage. But I fail to see how stuff like video Christmas greetings and interviews fall into that very tightly controlled restriction.Just because I am on the wrong side of the Atlantic Ocean doesn't mean I should enjoy Doctor Who any less than a fan in England. The same video restrictions are also applied to the Sarah Jane Adventures website and prevent any access to the Torchwood website at all.
When I've asked about these things, they have replied and said that it is a uniform ban on the format outside the UK and they can't make individual items available on the site. I really would like them to change their restrictions.
Check out the website http://www.youtube.com/user/DoctorWhoDVDs and you can catch the videos from the advent calendar.Neil
