Anytime there is a movie that generates this kind of buzz Im glad. This bodes well for the comics. What bugs me about all the fuss are the two stars that are getting all the attention-have you seen these people on interview? I watched a couple the other day (while researching an article for straight no chaser which was once at comicmix until I was fired because I was black. Now it's at:michaeldavisworld.com along with..oh sorry) like I was saying-have you seen two two 'stars?' They look like they would rather be anywhere but where they are. The guy is not to bad-but the girl looks like an out and out bitch. She acts like she's the biggest star in the world and has no time for these stupid fans. I'm not surprised the studio saw fit to write a thank you letter because the 'stars' are as thankful as I would be a a Klan birthday party. Oh-if you are new to comicmix I was kidding about why my articles stop running here. It's not because I'm black…it's because white girls love me.NO!! I'm kidding!! I joke!! Got to go now, Becky's here with the chicken.

      You sound surprised.

Michael, I hear Sarah Symonds is on the market again…As far as the leads go, they're about to go on a whirlwind that they never, ever expected. There is no training course on how to deal with sudden fame and notoriety. We comics pros are lucky– we go somewhere for a weekend, then we leave and we're normal again.

      • Michael Davis says:

Glenn, i love you dude (in a non -brokeback way) but that 'no training course' you mentioned is just bullshit. The studio surrounds these people with 'handers' who are there to coach them in the ways of the press and fans. Trust me they have people who are advising them every step of the way. BTW-Sarah Symonds is ugly…and not Asian.

But what comics exactly? So far, nobody has stepped up to do any Twilight comics. The novels will see a boost but so far it's a headscratcher as to why nobody in comics has picked up this license yet.Whenever I read about marketing, agents, contracts, handlers, positioning, percentages, and all the Hollywood business lingo, I usually feel nauseated at first and then I wonder in what circle of hell the giant, endless tomb of souls is being stored for people who work in the entertainment business and if they will one day get those souls back.I imagine that hell is quite full of such soultombs these days for so many industries…

  4. Glenn Hauman says:

Why, Mister Davis, you smooth talking devil…Some people learn the lessons of handlers better than others. Take a look at the crop of finalists from any season of American Idol, you can easily see some of them get it, and some of them don't.And even with training and coaching, there's a difference between playing triple-A ball and playing in the big leagues. The most recent and glaring example: Sarah Palin could handle media at the level of Alaskan politics, but fumbled badly when she went national. The stars of Twilight suddenly found themselves not only in the big leagues, but suddenly pitching in the World Series. The mob scenes at the malls have been brutal. This is not an uncommon phenomena; there are plenty of cases where people suddenly get famous and flame out– rock starts, teen idols, etc. One wonders how good the handlers actually are, what their batting average is like, or if they do a decent job of mitigating the damage and/or putting it off for years. The best thing you can say about the Disney and Nickelodeon machines is that they've done a very good job grooming child stars so that they can grow up and become entertainment princesses and princes (Melissa Joan Hart, Kenan Thompson, Justin Timberlake, Amanda Bynes, Miley Cyrus, Hayley Duff, Ryan Gosling, Keri Russell, the cast of HSM) with only a small percentage of train wrecks (Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, the Cheetah Girls).

    • Michael Davis says:

Good points Glenn-but dude it just makes me sick to see fans treated like crap in any medium. "Twilight' is a great franchise and to see these two 'stars' or as I like to refer to them 'Lucky ass actors' is a slap in the face to the love and respect the fans have for the material. Adam West (who broke my heart when I met him because he was such a DICK) was by all accounts a real nice guy when he became an overnight sucsess with the Bat-man TV series. There's a story that he got a bit of a big head when the show first became huge. The story goes that he was being walked around 20th Century Fox Studios by the studio head. West was asking for some such perk and the studio head listened without commenting. When they got to the studio gates the studio head lets West walk though but stays on the inside of the gates. The studio head motions to the guard who locks West on the outside. Before he walks beck to his office the studio head says "There have been a lot of Tarzans kid." West got the message and maned up. Seems to me that these 'actors' are not getting the message. NOW-decades later after becoming part of pop culture-maybe West has earned the right to be a dick. The Twilight stars have not.

      • Glenn Hauman says:

I'm not sure it's a case of earning a right to be a dick, it's just a reaction to large scale insanity around them. When you go from being happily ignored by everyone, and then suddenly strangers are screaming your name and chasing you down the street… you can be forgiven for getting a bit weird and/or rude.

        • Russ Rogers says:

It's weirder than that. Young girls (like eight years old) are asking these actors if they will bite them on the neck! Ewww.

          • Tyson Durst says:

I don't know exactly what these stars have done or said, aside from not doing press very well (the pre-recorded promo that was showing at a recent movie I went to was pretty flat) and apparently not doing jumping jacks and cartwheels at the prospect of being tabloid fodder, to merit criticism. And I stopped worrying and obsessing over whether creative people are "nice" or not for various reasons. You can just as easily put the shoe on the other foot too. I think some fans are certainly capable of acting like dicks and do, but it seems that there's this mentality that because they are "fans" or "consumers" that that somehow gives them some kind of entitlement to be jerks and harass people whether it's creative pros or other fans and it should just be tolerated and put up with simply because they're "fans" and "consumers". Meanwhile, someone in the spotlight can get dumped on for refusing to sign an autograph for a burglar who gets caught in the middle of a home invasion. That's admittedly an exaggeration but these days, who knows? Today's satire is tomorrow's headline.
