What To Watch on Halloween
Halloween is the day where, traditionally, people under 21 run around in costumes and collect candy while people above do…other things. If you don’t have any big plans that involve getting candy or alcohol in a costume tonight, here are a few reasons to leave a bowl of candy outside your door and curl up in front of the DVD player for the night.
Dance of the Dead
If Zombie Comedies are your vice, then you’ll want to grab this Dance of The Dead as part of the Ghost House Underground box set. It takes place on prom night when the dead decide to rise, and the only people who can stop them are the one’s not cool enough to get invited to the dance. There’s plenty of horror moments for diehard zombie fans, as well as some pretty great one’s as well, including a zombie make-out scene. Check out a full review here.
Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer
Want a monster movie with a bit of a heroic twist a la Army of Darkness? Well Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer may just be your cup of tea. We got to talk to costar Robert Englund earlier this year about the film, and anything that can get Freddy Krueger this excited is definitely worth watching!
Dark Floors
Another addition as part of Ghost House Productions worth a watch is the 2007 monster movie Dark Floors. If you can imagine a band of horrific monsters chasing you down a hallway (number one you need help) and number two you will love this flick. Made with the Finnish metal band Lordi, it even contains members of the horrific band as the creatures who kill unsuspecting victims in this slasher thriller. Check out a full review here.
Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead
Fans of the epic cacophonies which are Troma films will need to grab the newest release in Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead. Not only does the film include zombie chickens, but an assortment of bloody havoc and mayhem along with some crude humor to boot. You can also expect to see some Troma favorites like Ron Jeremy to pop up as well.
Child’s Play: 20th Birthday Edition
Looking for a classic with a new twist? Well the "20th Birthday" Edition of Child’s Play is recently out on DVD. You get some of the same scares from Chucky, as well as commentary by the possessed doll himself (Brad Dourif reprises his role). Some other great extras are included like featurettes on making the doll, and even some info about who was originally slated to voice Chucky before Dourif took the role!
Zombie Strippers
Finally, in the newest release on the list is Zombie Strippers starring Adult Film Queen Jenna Jameson and Robert Englund. Another great zombie/monster flick for fans of the genre and Englund himself. Of course, the guys will get the acting chops and….other assets of Jenna and the rest of her stripper crew as they fight off the living dead.
Here’s a list of all of the Ghost House Underground horror films that we reviewed here at ComicMix all week long:
- No Man’s Land: Rise of the Reeker
- The Trackman
- The Substitute
- Last House in the Woods
- Brotherhood of Blood
All of these films are currently out on DVD, so if you don’t plan on cutting holes in a sheet and throwing it on to collect candy, pick these up today and curl up to some blood and guts tonight in front of the TV.
Happy Halloween!
