No ‘Warcraft’ in 2009
Shack News is reporting that Blizzard and Legendary Pictures’ adaptation of Warcraft won’t be ready for next year, as had been previously announced.
"I don’t know about the 2009 date," says Blizzard president Mike Morhaime about the film’s progress, "but it is still something we are very excited about."
"We do have a draft of a script, [but] it isn’t final," he continues. "I think we still need to do a lot of work."
At BlizzCon 2007, Blizzard’s VP of Creative Development Chris Metzen and Thomas Tull, head of Legendary Pictures, provided insight into the progress of a Warcraft movie. They released the following tidbits of information:
– The film is set for 2009
– They have a $100 million budget
– It will be a mix of live action and computer animation
– No directors or actors are attached
– The story focuses on major events from a year before World of Warcraft and will principally focus on the Alliance’s perspective
– Run time will be about two to two and a half hours
– More of a Gladiator war epic than a Lord of the Rings journey of discovery
– Characters to be featured include Bolvar Fordragon, Thrall and Cairne Bloodhoof.
Two years later, there are only two items on that list we can speak to: the film will not be released in 2009, and there are still no actors or directors attached. Look how much can happen in two years!
It’s nice to see Blizzard being thoughtful with their property, but there is a difference between taking one’s time and being too reserved to jump into battle. A Warcraft film can wait for a while, but once the craze of World of Warcraft subsides a bit, those potential gold pouches are gonna disappear off the battlefield.
Ah, who are we kidding? World of Warcraft will always be awesome. Speaking of which, we got some orcs to hunt. Leeroooooooooy Jenkins!!
Obviously you've never heard of Blizzard's "Soon TM"
Er, the 2007 BlizzCon was only one year ago, not two……
I hope that they at least have a Leeroy Jenkins cameo or reference in the film.
*Sigh.* Alliance perspective only and 'a mix of live action and computer animation'? Count me out. Put a nice mix of Horde and Alliance, and make it fully CG, then I'll be excited.
I couldn't agree more.
You got that right.. I thought it would be all CG but then i saw a mix of live action etc.. the way i have it pictured in my head, it will end up looking cheap imo.. plus just having an alliance perspective? it will make the horde look like the axis lol
Sadly, that would fit the way a lot of Horde players act. If anyone would bother reading the backstory, they'd see that the Horde were first forced together because of the hatred and distrust of the humans in the Alliance (one reason why Jaina Proudmoore was exiled to Theramore Isle, rather than being one of the high muckety-mucks back in Stormwind – she refused to break the alliance with Thrall when her father, the Admiral, decided it was time to wipe the orcs out once and for all). I mean, the orcs hate the Legion worse than anybody else, even the night elves, because they used to be its slaves; the Darkspear trolls were exiled by their own kind for not being vicious enough; the tauren were turned down by the Alliance because of their longstanding feud with the Cenarion centaurs over grazing lands; even the blood elves, despite their problem with magic addiction, mostly just want to go home (if only the night elves would let them). The only Horde members who are actually a threat to Azeroth are the Forsaken, and that's because they want to spread the benefits of undeath to everyone – whether they want said benefits or not. From the Horde's perspective, the Alliance is a collection of weak races, totally unprepared to defend Azeroth when (not if) the Burning Legion returns. (From the Alliance perspective, the Horde are a bunch of raving lunatics who keep attacking their strongholds; the Horde only does that to try to keep everyone on their toes, ready for the inevitable.)Sadly, most of the Horde players I've run into only choose that side because they think the Horde must be EEE-vill, and EEE-vill is kewl.
The mix of computer animation I am sure will only be used for characters that would be hard to represent in costumes, as well as spells. I am sure that a lot of the computer animation will be used for fireballs, soul drains, and such. You can't exactly make fireballs fly through the air very well without a little computer animation.
I'd prefer something a bit more like LOTR. It'd really immerse the World of Warcraft.

Seriously, they shouldnt make a new plot. Make a movie out of warcraft 3 and it will make the world crazed over the film! It would make LOTR look like nothing.
Dude. Blizzard's gotta get it's game together. Spread yourself too thin and you don't stand out.
lol ppl who say "I can imagine this film in my head and it's gonna suck cause of blah blah blah live action dead animation whatever else your blabbing about" Well yeah, in your head its gonna suck, thats why your not directing it, or writing it, or editing it, or mixing it, or even PAing on it.
It is nice game and good graphics fetcher. —————kelvinAnybody know where the World of Warcraft European servers are located? Someone said they are all in Britain but I am not sure. Would they have some in Germany, some in Finland etc?I am trying to do a business plan for my own massive multiplayer game and was wonder how they spread out the resources. WoW Europe Gold
