Superheroes Come Home, by Dennis O’Neil

Dennis O'Neil

Dennis O'Neil was born in 1939, the same year that Batman first appeared in Detective Comics. It was thus perhaps fated that he would be so closely associated with the character, writing and editing the Dark Knight for more than 30 years. He's been an editor at Marvel and DC Comics. In addition to Batman, he's worked on Spider-Man, Daredevil, Iron Man, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern/Green Arrow, the Question, The Shadow and more. O'Neil has won every major award in the industry. His prose novels have been New York Times bestsellers. Denny lives in Rockland County with his wife, Marifran.

Good article, Denny. I think I'm working toward my dirty old man merit badge myself. I'll have you know, that my summertime reading in the yard (no porch) was Batman comics written by you with Neal Adams doing the drawing. I had a strong desire to learn to read, so I could read my comics myself instead of having my mom do it. And when I did start reading – I was reading stories by Denny O'Neil. I even got a chance to meet you at a retailers convention in Baltimore when I managed a comic shop just after college. I think that was in 90 or 91? At the time, I was reading The Question, which to me is one of the best comic runs ever. I'm really enjoying the articles and am happy to see you are still keeping tabs on the business.
