Routh to ‘Return’ as Superman?
The DC movie goodness keeps rolling in and for the second day in a row, Latino Review is spilling the beans.
At Monday’s Watchmen presentation in New York City, which you can read about here, the Web site’s Kellvin Chavez had the opportunity to speak with DC Comics President Paul Levitz. Over the course of the candid conversation, Levitz revealed something quite interesting about the oft-whispered Superman reboot.
According to the site, Levitz stated: "[Previous Superman] Brandon Routh has come around the offices in New York and Los Angeles as of late to talk about Superman and what we want to do."
This is the highest profile indication that the newest live-action Superman film would include members of the lukewarmly received Superman Returns. Chavez’s report continues to mention that "Mr. Levitz made it seem … that [DC Comics and Warner Bros.] loves Brandon Routh as Clark Kent and that he’s just a great guy."
Apparently Levitz also mentioned that the Superman reboot is hinged upon locking in a third Batman.
"Everyone is waiting for Nolan to sign on for another Batman," Levitz reportedly told Chavez. "Once that happens, the release date for Superman and all other future projects will follow."
Latino Review lists DC’s slate as follows:
Green Lantern: Summer 2010
Batman 3: Summer 2011
Superman reboot: Summer 2012
If that is indeed the schedule, then Hal Jordan will be squaring off against Marvel’s Iron Man 2 and Thor, Bruce Wayne will fend off The First Avenger: Captain America and The Avengers, while the Man of Steel’s opponent remains unknown. DC is being very careful in moving forward with another Superman film as the most recent installment fell well under expectations.
The Web site also mentions that a Flash film is in the works, though did not specify a date for production. Also likely on DC’s slate, though not covered by the report, is the David Goyer penned Green Arrow: Escape from Supermax and Jonah Hex, which actor Josh Brolin is currently attached to.
Earlier this month, an interview with Kevin Spacey by The Independent indicated that the thespian was being approached to return as Kal-El’s bald-headed nemesis for a Superman sequel.
"The producers of the follow-up to Superman Returns … will be paying him big bucks to reprise his role as Lex Luthor next year," the site reported.
You can now mark two strong rumors that Superman Returns veterans may indeed return for another round.
