James Marsters Reads ‘The Dresden Files’
James Marsters has quite the fan following as an actor but also an equally loyal following as a reader of audio books. The latter fans will be delighted to know that he has signed on to read the remaining six Harry Dresden novels by Jim Butcher. These titles include Death Masks, Blood Rites, Dead Beat, Proven Guilty, White Night, and Turn Coat (to be released simultaneously with the hardcover due out in April 2009).
Death Masks will be released when Roc re-releases the book as a hardcover in November 2009. Blood Rites and Dead Beat can be expected when the hardcover reissue of Blood Rites is released in July 2010.
Butcher’s series about Dresden, freelance wizrd/private investigator has been running for a decade or so now and was adapted as a one season Sci Fi Channel series. The Dabel Brothers are also producing Dresden comic books and graphic novels, the firstof which will be reviewed here on Wednesday.
As a performer, he will next be seen in 2009’s Dragonball, the adaptation of the anime Dragonball Z.
Technically, isn't the movie an adaptation of Dragonball, not Dragonball Z?
James is wonderful !! I read Fool Moon first, then listened to the audio book. James is an awesome performer. He does the accents and mannerisms of the characters, bringing the books to life. I've now read and listened to all the books, trying to be patient waiting for the next story.
I myself really like the Dresden Files as well as the audio books. My 91 year old mother says James Marsters has the most lovely voice she has ever heard! It is sad that she is nearly blind because he is also easy on the eyes. We are looking forward to the next offering of this series.
I never really got into the whole Buffy phenomomania, I was overly busy building my flash business. Later when I got knock out of a much more active lifestyle I was looking for a variety of distractions to make me happy that I was going to be spending months possibly a couple of years with a lot of free time and limited physical movement. One of the single best series I found was the butcher series, and while I read the first three, after I got a taste of James Marsters doing his thing reading the series I never looked back. I much prefer to listen to him now rather than read them. Even more funny, if I do read them I just hear him in my mind now anyway but my minds imitation of him is never as pardon the pun "novel" as it is to listen to his actual interpretation of the text. I will be deeply saddened if as his status and his age is right, he does not stay the permanent narrator for the series. Fortunately I think he will. as my comment is late and at this point all the books mentioned have since been published and devoured by an adoring public, I am pretty sure that all get that there are only two guys who did a great interpretation of the character of Harry Dresden, one was the guy from TV show and the second was James Marsters. Honestly while I have done no home work to test the hypothesis, the two have very similar takes on the characterization. I Think that Jim Butcher is slowly creating one of the most amazing fiction franchises out there. It is a delight to see as in all of his public appearances he truly seems to be a decent guy. I will admit that I hope that there are folks to keep him humble as I have seen so many folks distorted by the field of sycophantic generating success that emanates from them thus giving them poor feed back on their arrogant or petty moments. Never the less he struck me as a guy who has given no small amount of thought to what it means to be a good person and I love his descriptions of his father. Anyway zeroing BACK in on the exact topic. For anyone looking for a masterful long lasting and deeply entertaining audio book of series. You are not going to do much better than the combination of Butcher and Marsters.
