Donna Noble to Return in ‘Doctor Who’ Special
England’s The Sun is reporting that Catherine Tate will be seen once more as Donna Noble in one of the four Doctor Who specials now filming for 2009. Bernard Cribbins will also return as Donna’s grandfather Wilf.
The paper also reports that John Simm will also return as The Master, despite apparently dying in front of the Doctor. Whether he will be in the same special as Donna was not revealed.
Summing up what we know to date: two of the specials are being film in America, likely pairing the Doctor with American assisntats yet to be named. Donna is back for one special and the Master is back for one special which may be or may not be one of the three we know about.
A source told the tabloid that the current Doctor, David Tennant, was likely inclined to sign on for a full season. “David loves filming Doctor Who. The upcoming specials have given him more freedom to work on other projects this year and now he’s ready to come back to film a proper series to go out in 2010.”
I really warmed up to Donna as the season went on. But, I guess that was the point. Although, like the Master, she seems like a character that they made it nearly impossible for her return. Unless the specials are about the Doctor on a nostalgia kick.
Combining those ideas together, The Master coming after donna to obtain the bits of the Doctor contained within could be an easy way to solve all problems at once. We're just spitballing now, but it's fun, so big deal.
This should dispel the rumors that The Master will reincarnate into another body, performed by Tom Baker.Unless, of course, they set that up at the end of this coming special…
"This should dispel the rumors "You may have just typed the five funniest words ever to appear on the Internet.
True. Please change that to "This should ignite new rumors."
Wonder if the bits of the Doctor Donna absorbed might make it possible for her to regenerate at least once.River Song, anyone?
I like that idea! It would also explian why River acted so weird around Donna. It opens up another can of worms (why River needed to be told who Donna was), but I do Like it.
And the Master didn't just "Die in front of the Doctor" – the Doctor burnt his corpse.OTOH, there was that final shot with the ring.Could it be that the reason the Master refused to regenerate was that he couldn't? What if he was simply the Master's persona overwritten on some poor human, and the ring is the key?
oops
We also don't know if either special is in future continuity or could be taking place during a season we've already seen.
I had an idea once about The Doctor falling for a trap set by the Master, only to find out that it was an automated thing he set up years before. Basically an unexploded landmine. It would be quite a blow to the Doctor, akin to a man on a deserted island follwing what he thinks are recent tracks in the sand only to have them lead to a skeleton.
We're all keeping in mind that this was in the Sun, right? The same paper that has a Doctor Who accuracy rate of about one in ten, if that much? They got Kylie right, but I think that's pretty much it–better make that one in thirty. ;-)
donna's going to return? oh well, lets hope so. i never thought dat doctor who could be any funnier. i mean, when thy say dat she's going to returned for season 4, i thought, 'oh dats good, she's funny.' also, there's few discontinued events in da series. i could only name a few; prof river song, the master's ring (whose hand wuz dat?), ending of shakespere episode (when doctor wuz chased by guards, martha asked wut hav he done? he said he doesn't know, that might happen in da future. but some fans refer to tooth n claw episode, but dats da past, rite?)oh..i ike dis series soooo much. hope dat i could find da dvds in my country…*sigh* which, nearly impossible~
I agree with you, I think that would be brilliant.ALSO, your spelling is awesome, I'm not ripping into it at all. I think everyone should type with accents. It would make reading far more interesting. If they did bring her back, It would be amazing as Cathrine Tate and David Tennant, did make a fantastic comedy and emotional pairing.
ok, my heart was unnecessarily broken by donna's mind erasure. i do believe her memory will return. the balence must be maintained. jennie, the doctor's daughter must find her way to donna to relieve her of the dangerous timelord knowledge and brainwaves, by performing a paramental brain cortex knowledge dispersal into jennies head, thus reliving donna of the painful, out of control vast knowledge that apparently a mere human can't stand, and giving her, jennie, the abilities of the doctor, which are necessary for a fledgling timelord to get by in the modern space-time continuum the doctor deals with every day! BUT, donna keeps enough knowlege to not only keep the precious memories of the experiences that changed her into the donna that we all know and love, but ALSO make her the cleverest human in existance. she will be both sought after, feared, and envied, all emotions worthy of further exploration into donna noble's wonderful character. BRING BACK DONNA NOBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
