Better, I think, to include issues 13 and 14 at the end of this volume than the beginning of the next.

I thought First Comics were creator-owned."…though there is one soap-opera-level revelation late in this book that strains credulity…"Remember in (the original) film, Bedazzled, where the magic word was "Julie Andrews"?Is the magic word you're referring to here "Juliet Anderson"?

It is a very nice collection quite worthy of the material.

I believe the editor of the original series was responsible for its faults. I also recall Alan Moore complaining about this miscreant in a Comics Journal interview. Mickey Silver… or something like that…

      1. You're right, the editor was completely to blame. No wonder he wasn't invited to the 25th anniversary panel they had this year at San Diego Comic-Con. I can't imagine anyone working with him nowadays.2. If anyone has ever wondered how free from editorial interference our reviewers are, this review should answer you nicely.

Mickey Silver. Hah!I need to start using that one if Mike isn't calling himself that already.

I always assumed that "Plex" was an abbreviation of "complex."

I really enjoyed reading this review. It also brings up a lot of memories for me, as I found my first comic shop the week Jon Sable: Freelance #1 hit the stands, so First Comics was a big part of the scene for me. I enjoyed reading Sable, Warp, E-Man, Mars, Lone Wolf and Cub, Star Slayer, Grimjack, Nexus, and even the Beowulf Graphic Novel by Bingham, but my favorite First title was American Flagg. I'd always liked Chaykin's work and Flagg was pure gold.I know it sounds crazy but even after all this time, I still miss Pacific Comics, Eclipse Comics, and First Comics. The early eighties were great.
