What i like about Reeve's portrayal is that, i swear, his Clark is *bigger* – albeit somewhat "softer" – than his Superman. Superman's not a naive boy scout nor is he perfect. He feels isolated and alone at times and he is forced to question his limits, how much should he help and how much should he let humans do for themselves. One of my favourite moments along those lines comes, not in one of Big Blue's own titles, but in "Hitman". Tmooy Monaghan encounters Superman on a Gotham City roof just as Superman is having a fit of self-doubt because, while he was able to rescue three of four astronauts from an orbital disaster, he was unable to rescue the fourth. And he says something along the lines of "…and I saw his face, and his eyes said, 'You're Superman, but you're still not going to br able to save me…'."And Monaghan give him a lecture about what he *has* done and *will* do, and what an inspiration he is for immigrants and so on – and it's abslutely sincere, not written with a cynical edge like so much of Monaghan's dialog – and then asks for his autograph. And Superman thanks him for helping him see clearly again and flies away. And Monaghan picks up the rifle that was lying on a ledge along the front of the building and blows away the welshing loanshark across the street.

I never thought about Superman that way before but now that you said it that way he actually makes more sense to me. I guess I just thought he was the boy scout people always joke about.Good article ~ Sarah L.
