Paris Hilton and Stan Lee Creating Comic Spoof
MTV’s new Splash Page comics blog has some bizarre news about a partnership between Stan Lee and Paris Hilton. Let that sink in for a second or two.
Apparently the oddest dynamic duo are working together on an animated superhero spoof show for MTV. Details:
“We’re developing that right now and just going over scripts and drawing my character,” Hilton told us. “I fight crime.”
The infamous party girl will soon be seen in the upcoming twisted musical “Repo! The Genetic Opera” where she lampoons beauty-obsessed celebritities as a plastic surgery-addicted brat, and Hilton proclaimed her next target will be the capes-and-cowls crowd.
“It’s not like your typical superhero,” she promised of her Lee-created character. “It’s me basically as a superhero, so kind of using makeup and compacts as weapons. It’s kind of like a spoof on a superhero.”
To "spoof" something well you need to have a thorough knowledge and a real affection for what is being spoofed. Otherwise you slip into mockery, half-assed smirking. Stan Lee is perfect for "spoofing" superheroes. And Paris Hilton can spoof herself. But I'm afraid Paris will just make a mockery out of spoofing superheroes; she doesn't have the brains or the heart to do this well. Didn't Pamela Anderson try this? Uhm, yeah. "Stripperella." Stan Lee was behind THAT shamockery of a spoof too.I bet Kitty Carlisle would make a great Superhero!

I've never defended Paris. I think she's vapid, not much substance. I think her appeal in the Press has been rather salacious, turning us all into Peeping Toms going through her dirty underwear. Her Celebrity Status has always been based more on her Celebrity rather than her achievements. She's famous for being famous. I don't think she has much talent as a singer or an actress. I've been bored by "The Simple Life," never watched it much. But I have a grudging respect that she has been able to turn what seems to be limited bits of talent, beauty, brains and resources into a small Media and Marketing Empire. And, although I don't think she's very funny, I also don't think she takes herself all too seriously. And I appreciate that quality in Shallow Pop Sex Sirens. And I have to admit, I'm also very intrigued by "Repo! The Genetic Opera!" But that has Sarah Brightman too, and I've been a fan of hers since, "I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper." That is Kitsch Deluxe!And I am enjoying fueling the groundswell of Kitty Carlisle Fandom! Maybe Our Miss Kitty could somehow make it into the back-story for Maggie the Cat! Ah, a fella can dream.
I think I just threw up in my mouth a little. It's hard enough earning any kind of respect as a comic book reader, especially a female one…this is worse than Pam Anderson and Lee doing that horrific Striperella bit on Spike TV…let's hope this goes just about as well.
I'm not sure why Stan Lee would be helping create another publicity vehicle for that waste of space.It's hard to be taken seriously as an art form, when stuff like this is being made.
Does Stan need money this badly or has he just gone off the deep end? Can't someone tell him that this stuff is just stupid crap?
