"I mean, come on, folks: A series in which the art never changes (…)?"You've obviously never seen David Lynch's strip "The Angriest Dog in the World", which ran in all sorts of indie newspapera across the country. Five panels; one with an explanation of the dog, three with the dog in the yard not moving, one with the dig at night, also not moving. These panels never changed; only the word balloons did. Minimalist humor at its finest.

I have indeed seen it. And like Dinosaur Comics, it's one of those strips that no one would expect to succeed but certainly did. Ryan North has actually referenced Angriest Dog on several occasions.

T-Rex actually adopted The Angriest Dog In The World in this comic, effective incorporating the entire run of Lynch's comic strip into the backstory for Dinosaur Comics.

I've been checking out Ryan North's comics online for years, ever since I caught the hard copy in a comic-book store and realized, gee, this shit is philosophically interesting and really f*ing funny…which is pretty hard to pull off. And T-Rex is a great character, with fantastic foils. I'm not really looking for the art to 'evolve' (though to be honest, I'm not a huge comix fan), and I actually dig the static setting (another great foil for a conversation…hey! It's like meeting in the same coffeeshop every time)…but the dialogue, and the timing, is superb. I would really love an interview with North where some of his linguistic fascinations are really discussed…Great, great stuff.
