ComicMix at New York Comic Con

Yeah, so there’s this comic convention "thing" going on in Manhattan this weekend… or so we’re told.

Here’s where you can find the ComicMix crew throughout the weekend (when we’re not cavorting at the three-day party in our official "ComicMix HQ" conference room, of course):

The weekend kicks off with ComicMix Managing Editor Rick Marshall (who also likes to refer to himself in third-person while writing roundups) engaging in a thoughtful (only if he doesn’t open his mouth) discussion with a cadre of other InterWebs-based comics journalists at Friday’s "Choosing the News: The Changing Face of Online Journalism" panel:

It’s a fact – journalism has changed. With more outlets than ever, more demands from news sources, and comics increasingly covered by the mainstream, how do comics news sites navigate the uncharted waters? Join Matt Brady (Newsarama), Richard George (IGN), Rick Marshall (ComicMix), Brian Heater (Daily Cross Hatch) and others for this engaging discussion, moderated by The Beat’s Heidi MacDonald.

Later that day, ComicMix Editor-in-Chief Mike Gold and columnist Michael Davis will be among the panelists at this year’s "Black Panel – NYCC Style" discussion:

Witness true black power—the power of black content in the entertainment marketplace. This lively panel will look at how black content is influencing entertainment and discuss how to increase its output in the mainstream.

Friday, 7:30-8:30 PM : Room 1E12-13-14

On Sunday, our own Adventures of Simone & Ajax creator Andrew Pepoy will have a table in Artists Alley (J31), but you can also find him at Sunday’s "Growing Up With Archie" panel:

Join the creative staff who will share inside perspectives on the creation of Archie, how Archie Comics has evolved, why it dominates the newsstands and the super markets in comic sales. Panelists include: Michael Silberkleit, Chairman/Publisher; Victor Gorelick, Editor-in-Chief (his 50th year with Archie Comics); Fred Mausser, VP Sales; Mike Pellerito, Managing Editor, Dan Parent, Betty & Veronica writer and artist, Barbara Slate, Betty & Veronica writer, Fernando Ruiz, Tales from Riverdale writer and artist, Andrew Pepoy, Katy Keene writer and artist, Alex Simmons, Archie & Friends writer and rising new Archie Comics writer Misako Takashima. The panel will be moderated by Rik Offenberger, Public Relations Coordinator.

Sunday, 12:00-1:00 PM : Room 1E02

ComicMix writer, editor and jack-of-all-trades contributor Bob Greenberger will also be in attendance Sunday and moderating the "How I Got My Job" panel:

Sunday, 3:00-4:00 PM : Teen Room 1E02

Other ComicMix columnists meandering around the convention center include noted creators Dennis O’Neil and John Ostrander (who also writes Munden’s Bar and GrimJack here at ComicMix). The pair will most certainly be dividing their time between attending various panels and fighting off hordes of adoring fanboy fans as they make their way to ComicMix HQ.

Dennis O’Neil in particular will be in attendance at the "Legends Behind the Comic Books – Documentary Screening" event on Sunday:

An NYCC exclusive screening! – Michael Uslan (Executive Producer of the Batman movies) and Stonebridge Productions, LLC bring you a new documentary produced and directed by Chip Cronkite. Stan Lee, Jerry Robinson, Joe Simon, Joe Kubert, Murphy Anderson, Irwin Hasen, Sheldon Moldoff, Lew Sayre Schwartz, Greg Hildebrandt, Denny O’Neil, Al Bellman, Ramona Fradon, John Romita, Roy Thomas, Adam Kubert, Andy Kubert, and Dick Giordano provide a first hand account of the creation of the comic book industry and America’s first super-heroes. From World War II, through the Cold War of the 1950s, and the cultural revolution of the 1960s, comic books continue to reflect a changing American society. These men and women created a contemporary mythology. The ancient gods of Egypt , Greece and Rome still live, only today they wear spandex and capes.

Noted inker Frank McLaughlin, who will also be co-writing and inking the upcoming ComicMix series White Viper (you heard it here first, folks), will also have a spot staked out in Artists Alley (I13-14).
