I think it's interesting that he says YHT isn't going to have kids until he does, but he's drawing the cats as babies — big heads, small bodies.

  2. Wes says:

Hey, Marilee! The cats cartoons are largely inspired by my childhood. I kinda mixed elements of some of the crap I remember from being a kid with some of the stupid stuff my cats do. The difference between drawing about "baby cats" and "baby humans" is the aspect of parenthood. I have no idea what it's like to be a parent, but I have plenty of memories from being a kid. So that's the well I draw from when creating the Litterbox strip.- Wes

I wondered if you'd answer. :) I call my guys "babies," but I really think of them as my companions. (They think of me as their domestic servant.)

Excellent interview. Wes is on really great guy. I know, I had hosted him for a couple of days when he came to New England for a book signing at Double Midnight comics. He has also drawn custom strips for my wife to give me for our wedding and one for me to give my wife on our 1st anniversary. Wes has wonderful talent and it continues to grow. I've been a fan of YHT from way back. And having two cats of my own I get cracked up by LBC.
