MegaCon ’08: Adrian Pasdar Talks ‘Heroes’
If MegaCon 2008 is any indication, anime fans are also huge Heroes fan. I was front and center among the 600-person crowd at Saturday’s Adrian Pasdar Q&A, thanks to ComicMix friend Jimmy Palmiotti, who moderated the discussion with the Heroes actor.
When asked, "If you could take anyone’s powers on the show what would it be?" Pasdar smiled and said that very question has been brought up many times among the cast and they all came up with the same answer: If you want invisibility as a power, then you’re a pervert.
Pasdar said he’s very happy with only having the ability to fly, especially since his favorite comic character is the Silver Surfer. However, he wouldn’t mind having invisibility, too. According to Pasdar, his son asked him once how he can be a crime fighter with only the ability to fly, explaining, "What happens when you get to where you are going, and you don’t have a gun or a badge?" The question later turned up in the show as part of a conversation between Pasdar’s character, Nathan Petrelli, and his brother, Peter.
Pasdar added that his "dark side" would’ve enjoyed the role of series villain Sylar, though.
Pasdar wasn’t able to reveal much about the upcoming season, but hinted that his character, who was shot at the end of the second season, isn’t leaving the show quite yet.
"Bulletproof vest… bulletproof vest," he repeated, smiling at the crowd.
Pasdar also talked some politics during the event, recounting a recent experience with American presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama. The actor, who plays a politician on the hit series, said that when he met Obama and his wife, all they wanted to do was talk Heroes and let him know they watch the DVDs while on the campaign trail. According to Pasdar, Obama asked him what it was like playing a
politician on television, and he replied, "You should know!"
His appearance at MegaCon provided a homecoming of sorts for Pasdar, an alum of the University of
Central Florida, which he attended on a football scholarship.
As far as upcoming projects, Pasdar said he spends time behind the camera whenever possible, and directed the crowd to his short film work that can be found online via his YouTube profile, as well as his feature-length film, Cement. Although he wouldnt mind directing an episode of Heroes, the week of prep time, 10-day shoot and weeks of editing would mean Nathan has to die if Adrian gets to direct — and he’s not willing to go there yet.
When asked about the status of Heroes: Origins, the spin-off of Heroes, Pasdar said it’s been tabled for the moment, but will happen eventually.
Filming for Season 3 of Heroes begins May 1 and the new season will air on NBC in late September 2008. Be sure to catch up with our prior coverage of MegaCon ’08, and look for more from Adrian Pasdar on Tuesday’s edition of ComicMix Radio!
