U.N.C.L.E. didn't get really campy till it went to color – most of the black & white episodes are pretty solid. Else Lanshester in "The Brain Killer Affair" was a favorite. When it went to color you got stuff like Boris Karloff in drag for "The Mother Muffin Affair", Sonny & Cher in "The Hot Number Affair" (with their music playing in the background while they were on screen) and the like. But the chemistry between Napolean and Illya was worth it all.By any chance did they get ahold of Bill Mills and (Make-up man) Bob Short, co-owners of the largest Man from UNCLE collection in the world, including Napoleon's car? I saw the collection at Worldcon in 1984 and was wildly impressed. They had on display Waverly's conference table, the car, assorted UNCLE specials and Thrush rifles and a lot more. They were also childhood friends of David McDaniel, writer of the best of the novelizations and the legendary unpublished "The Final Affair". This is indeed my dream gift, but lord knows I'll never see a copy, let alone own one.

I think some of the two-parters were pretty good and some of the casting in the later seasons was great, but only the first season and the last — where they played it pretty straight — were anything truly above the norm. I'm a fan, and I tend to enjoy the mediocre episodes. It'll hold me until somebody's smart enough to release T.H.E. Cat.

I always liked U.N.C.L.E. more than Bond. And there are people, mostly women, who watch NCIS now just for David McCallum.

Except for the very first of the feature films ("To Trap a Spy", in which the Bad Guys are called "WASP" and the UNCLE communicator is about the size of a pack of cigarettes, which is a paste-up of parts of two episodes) most if not all of the rest the rest were basically made as features and edited down slightly for teevee showing as two-part stories in this country. I've seen four or five of them. The teevee-quality effects didn't fare well on the big screen (in "The Spy with my Face" ["The Deadly Doubles affair" on teevee] there's a bit with using thermite to burn the lock off a door, and, while on teevee the sparks and smoke from the oyrocharge used hid it, on thebig screen you can see the hole in the door from the first.Did you know that McCallum (definitely) and (i think) Vaughan make brief appearances in the 60s spoof "Casino Royale"?

Best joke on NCIS – someone asks 'What did Ducky look like when he was young?' And someone else answers, 'Illya Kuryakin.'"The novelisation of the first of Richard Boone's "Hec Ramsey" segment of NBC's "Mystery Movie" (by Joe Millard, i think) adds some dialog that wasn't in the film, basically one of the bad guys says why should they be afraid of an old man like Ramsey, and the other allows as how it's just a rumour, "…but you ever hear about a guy about twenty years ago had cards said 'Have Gun Will Travel'?"

Oh, I can't wait for my Blade Runner box set to arrive in the mail. That UNCLE set looks very tempting too. I have the Get Smart box set that Time Life put out and it is amazingly well done.
