I am not sure what's happened in comics for me, but the art seems to be more sketchy than it used to be and the stories themselves aren't strong enough to overcome my lack of interest in the artwork. The onset of the Manga-like art in some of the more fun-to-read comics (like Batman Adventures and Teen Titans) put me off altogether. I must say that Paul Dini's writing makes me read the story, even if I have to overlook the art. His work is easier to read without having to pay close attention to what's drawn. The comics I have read lately I can't tell you about anymore, although I used to memorize the plots and remember the art vividly. But that's just my opinion, for what it's worth.
