Gloria Steinem, movie commentator

Martha Thomases

Martha Thomases brought more comics to the attention of more people than anyone else in the industry. Her work promoting The Death of Superman made an entire nation share in the tragedy of one of our most iconic American heroes. As a freelance journalist, she has been published in the Village Voice, High Times, Spy, the National Lampoon, Metropolitan Home, and more. For Marvel comics she created the series Dakota North. Martha worked as a researcher and assistant for the author Norman Mailer on several of his books, including the Pulitzer-Prize-winning Executioner's Song, On Women and Their Elegance, Ancient Evenings, and Harlot's Ghost.

Well I met Ms. Steinem on a plane recently coming home from Heroes Con in Charlotte and we didn't have an interesting conversation such as this one. Might have made the ride home more pleasant or at least go quickly. (Kudos to fellow Comicmixer's Mike Raub and Mike Gold spotting her at our gate that afternoon).

I was seated behind her on that flight and that woman can tear through a Sunday times like nobody's business!

I can't imagine how a conversation with Gloria Steinem would make time pass MORE quickly…Q-How many feminists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?A-THAT'S NOT FUNNY!(and that's Elayne's joke, so go dogpile on her…)

I've seen Gloria Steinem do stand-up, and she actually is pretty funny. Not as funny as Margaret Cho, or Kate Clinton, or Wanda Sykes, who are professionals, but damn funny for a writer/activist.
