MOMA discovers Scott McCloud theories
At New York’s Museum of Modern Art, highbrow meets lowbrow once more – and, as usual, doesn’t get it.
“Comic Abstraction: Image-Breaking, Image-Making” is organized by Roxana Marcoci, curator of the department of photography, and features "nearly 30 works in drawing, painting, sculpture, video and installation made over the last 16 years by 13 artists who borrow one way or another from comic strips, cartoons and animation."
That’s right, all the artists swipe from the comics format without once considering the point of comics — to tell stories. Some of us believe everything that can be explored about the form was already done in Lichtenstein’s day, which is why some of us will never exhibit in the Museum of Modern Art.

First Comics 2.0 is finally here.Browser needs some work though. "Best fit for screen" = "least legible fit." Might as well just start loading at "normal" comic page size, you can't normally shrink the page too much and still have lettering legible. You also might want to put a "To be continued" and the date of the next installment at the end. When I tapped the space bar and hit the forward arrow at page 6 (I assume the end of installment) nothing happened and I had to back out of it. I'd also recommend panels not be deeper than half a screen, it may look nice in print, but if you're not on a developer's monitor, it may not fit on one screen. That said, always good to see more Grimjack. When's Sable online?

Beautiful, just beautiful. Nifty tantalizing beginning, with sufficient early payoff to build the anticipation for What Happens Next. Haven't sensed such a level of excitement for the idiom since the indie-comics watershed of the late '70s and '80s. Reader-system technology allows a sharp focus upon the story at hand. Hoo-hah!
Great opening to the story…interesting new character…great artwork….and the images on the computer screen seem even more vibrant than a glossy papered comic book.I am looking forward to the next installments.

The reader works very well. The two-page format makes me feel like I am looking at an actual comic book. The zoom feature looks nice as well. I'm looking forward to reading more.

Looks like a winner to me, Tim and John, and all others connected to publication. it has been a loooooooooooooong time since we have laid eyes on the man for hire in a new story and this has the look of old times, which is a good thing.Next up ,i hope, like eagle media has done with marvel characters,GRIMJACK on cd-rom or dvd, so i don't have to handle my comics as much as i do when i reread them at least a half dozen times a year. keep up the GREAT work !!!!looking forward to each forthcoming installment with baited breath

Two of my favorite people in comicdom; Ostrander and Truman. I'd love to see this team-up go down in history like Lee & Kirby, Thomas & Smith and Wein & Adams.Great comic and the viewer worked fantastic. Other comics should be posted like this.

A wonderful start to the ComicMix (r)evolution. It's always a treat to return to Cynosure. I never liked reading books online but this engine was well done and I had no problems reading the pages. Can't wait to see more.
Great to see you guys finally telling this story! I hope everyone buys this comic when it's printed, I know I will! PS. Any chance that ComicMix will do a new E-MAN comic? That would be the perfect character for this format, don't you think?
I agree, but right now Joe and Nick are self-publishing. E-Man colorist Matt Webb is doing a bunch of work with us, I'm happy to say… and Joe Staton will be visiting Munden's Bar once again in two weeks!

The art world doesn't truly get comics. From time to time, curators and gallery owners go through a comics fad, but they don't really get it. Whenever there's one of these artsy comic shows people I talk to are always amazed by "expertise". I'm no art expert! I'm just a nerdy fan who loves the medium.The problem with the art world is that they're still stuck in mid-20th century post-modernist thinking. That's why art is dying. Does the average person actually know the names of any contemporary artists or their work?No, art isn't dying.Art is dead.
The "art world" doesn't get anything. They're more removed from the real world than most other types of hardcore fans. They're too busy trying to answer two Zen questions: 1) What is art, and 2) Why are all the other critics such assholes?I had an art history minor in college. I stuck with my major, journalism, because it was less arrogant.

I loved the story. Is there more Grimjack to come? I'm just rediscovering my favorite badass from Cynosure and would be saddened to think there is no more.
Just picked up issues 3 and 4 together of Manx Cat. I have always admired how John Ostrander continues to show layers to his characters even when you think you know them after all these years. I have been with Grimjack from the beginning and still have all his issues and cross-overs and things from the First days. Sadly took way too long for Gaunt to be available again but looking forward to more–even Twiley. May Bob live forever (or at least we never see his death.)
