It’s the Mix March Madness 2014 Webcomics Tournament Sweet 16! Vote now!
UPDATE 3/31: Round 4 is over. Vote in the Elite 8 round now!
UPDATE 3/28 Midnight: We swear, we don’t know how it happened. But we screwed up the totals from Round 3 on a few of the contests, and reported the wrong winners in some contests.
First, our apologies to Grrl Power and Awkward Zombie for misreporting their results, and our apologies to Order Of The Stick and Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal for getting their hopes up. Sorry, folks.
Now, how we’re going to solve the problem: we’re going to replace the strips in the contests, and ComicMix is buying votes to match the current votes for Widdershins (72) and Monsterkind (143), effectively setting the contests at dead even. This allows us to start a new poll right now, which makes the contest even again.

Because of the late start, we’ll extend the voting time for this contest to Sunday at midnight.
Again, our apologies to all concerned.
Round 3 is over, and we’ve raised another $153 for the Hero Initiative. Now we’re down to the webcomics Sweet 16! Round 4 of the Mix March Madness 2014 Webcomics Tournament starts now!
People are now beginning to buy the winning votes, making the difference for Dick Ruby and Widdershins— so get your votes in early and get your friends in too.
In deference to the folks at Emerald City Comic Con voting lasts until Midnight Pacific Time on Saturday, March 29! Here are the latest standings…

As usual, we’re letting you support your favorite strips by paying for additional votes, with your money going to charity. Simply click on the Donate button below, and during checkout, click on “Which comic are you donating for?” and tell us who you’re voting for. The price is 20¢ a vote, with a minimum of five votes purchased at a time, split any way you want. All proceeds from paid votes will go to the Hero Initiative, an organization that helps comic book creators in need. At the close of the round, we’ll add the paid votes to the totals and announce the winners who move on to the brackets. (And yes, your donations to Hero are tax deductible.)
Again, voting ends at midnight Pacific Time on Saturday night! Good luck to everyone!
Don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but won’t accept my votes?
I noticed that you said Dick Ruby won through paid votes but Dick Ruby was up by around 20 votes or more in the previous round. They may have had paid votes but voters put them over, not paid votes unless your numbers were wrong (Dick Ruby had over 100 and their competition had 80ish) when voting ended in round 3. Also, when you posted final numbers in the brackets Dick Ruby’s competition had more than they had when voting ended (and they apparently didn’t have paid votes) and Dick Ruby had fewer, making it appear that paid votes put them over, which it didn’t. What’s up with that?
See the update above.
Please check the numbers, there is something wrong going on.
There are comics that have LESS votes than while the voting was alive. Plus a lot of them have EXACT amount of votes that in Round 2, what seems pretty unlikely to me.
See the update above.
If someone else was monitoring the voting as I was please go and check your comic’s numbers, I am seeing that some of them have a final amount lesser than showed live.
You’ve made an error on a few of the results. They should be as follows, as per the final results on the previous poll, which is still accessible.
Widdershins – 96 + 25 = 121
Skin Deep – 118
Order of The Stick – 147
Grrl Power – 182 (Should be winner, not OOTS)
Dick Ruby – 108 + 50 = 158
Freefall – 86
Awkward Zombie – 140 (Should be winner, not SMBC)
SMBC – 135
I think it’s unfair to reset the poll at this point, seeing the effort some creators have already gone through to collect votes. But perhaps you could re-run the two games with the incorrect contestants on their own poll.
You’re right. See the update above. Hopefully that will address the issue.
So how does this work now with the updated poll, do we just ignore the incorrect contests and skip over them?
Yep.
I feel like you put a target on Dick Ruby by saying that it won by paid votes in round 3 when, in reality, it didnt. I’m still not seeing a retraction on that and your post about Dick Ruby winning through paid votes is still up. They’re getting walloped and I can’t help but wonder if that is part of it.
You’re correct, we didn’t retract the note about Dick Ruby winning via paid votes in round 3. But that wouldn’t have an effect on the number of people voting for SSSD, which is a popular strip in its own right and has had a lot of supporters in previous rounds.
My apologies for my previous email where I erroneously reported an error. This time though, I am fairly confident that there is a genuine error. It is to do with the re-opening of voting for Grrl Power and the other three comics that had a problem.
It looks like the voting is allowing multiple votes from a single voter. The total count does not go up every time, so it could be a false impression. But it certainly allowed me to go through the process each time, rather than sending me to the results screen, as with previous voting.
And re-testing showed that the vote was going up periodically (although that may have been due to other people voting at the same time).
The polls don’t show up in Firefox (27.0.1, OSX)
Give them a few seconds, the site is getting hammered.
