Mark VII and Patriot, eh? I’ll keep an eye out.

    Great review. :D

    • Emily S. Whitten says:

Thanks! And yeah, those two are faves for general use. But I really think all but Thor (my personal non-fav) would work for at least some guys. Do you know if you are a warmer or cooler scent person?

  2. Kristina says:

As a lady who loves warm, complex scents (as well as being a huge fan of Black Widow herself), I think I’m definitely going to have to pick up the Black Widow scent. Out of the colognes, the one that sounds the most appealing to me is Patriot.

    • Emily S. Whitten says:

I think Black Widow will work well on people who generally do well with warmer scents. For instance, when I got the BCBG Girls perfume set awhile ago, I was in love with the cooler Metro and Nature on me, but the warmer Sexy and Star worked well on my sister – notes with vanilla etc. also seem to work better on her.

PATRIOT was SOCLOSE to being my favorite, I think Mark VII just knocked it out by a hair.

I’m not real great at guessing what scents smell like because a lot of ingredients are things I’ve never heard of. But if I had to guess, I’d pick SMASH! I like more all-purpose scents – stuff I can wear to work and wear out. You mentioned it was a little ‘unusual’. I dig scents that aren’t similar to everything else.

    • Emily S. Whitten says:

SMASH! is pretty nice! As long as you like warmer scents, it should work for you.

    • Emily S. Whitten says:

Hi TOM! Congrats, you are the winner of the Avengers cologne. Since you think you’d like SMASH!, I will send you that one. Please email me at emilyesse@gmail.com with your mailing details. GO YOU!!

      • Tom says:

Whoa. Super sorry I didn’t respond to this sooner. Just e-mailed you. That’ll teach me to not check ‘notify me of follow-up comments’.

  4. Elsajeni says:

I am definitely interested in PATRIOT! In fact, if my husband won’t wear it, I might. (I have a feeling that “Honey, guess what, you get to smell like Captain America!” will not be a super-strong selling point for him.)

    • Emily S. Whitten says:

Hah! It’s a good one, though if I was going to pick one for girls to wear, I might go with Loki? Hmm, maybe I’ll try the colognes on myself and see. :)

  5. jadedsky says:

While I am a woman, I know I’d not care and just wear Mark VII, Mischief, and Worthy. I like good, clean scents and those sound the best to me.

    • Emily S. Whitten says:

I definitely feel like at least the first two could be unisex. I am going to go home and try the colognes on me now, actually. *curious*

      • Kristina says:

I’m interested in possibly wearing some of the colognes as well, so I can’t wait to hear your verdict on this. :)

  6. Dee says:

As a huge Marvel fan(girl), I was so excited for an Avengers perfume that I purchased Black Widow without even smelling it first. Your review was pretty spot on. I would say Black Widow is definitely NOT fruity or for girls who only like sweet smelling scents. It has more of a spicy, cologne scent, that resembles YSL Opium in my opinion. Typically I go for more of a sweet scent, but I think I may venture outside the box and wear this when I’m feeling bold. I’ve only smelled it in the bottle (super strong, as you mentioned), so hopefully it works out for me. Also, the bottle is very pretty in person!

    • Emily S. Whitten says:

Yeah, there’s definitely a tang to it which I was struggling to figure out. It’s very bold, and I think best for going out on the town somewhere.

      I do love the bottle!

  7. Mai says:

While many of the colognes sound great, my pick is definitely the Black Widow scent, with that luscious (and hunger-inducing) description. A little nervous about the patchouli, but otherwise it seems right up my alley.

Definitely with you on the serious lack of geeky scents for fans of the not-so-manly persuasion. I recently discovered there’s a Mary Jane Watson scent coming out in June (http://bit.ly/JgCsMS) and got all excited that one of my very favorite comic book characters is getting her own perfume — except it’s actually a cologne. Not that anything’s stopping me from buying and wearing it if I want to, but it grates a little on principle, you know? There are already several Spider-Man colognes out there, including the one coming out soon — I don’t see why there can’t be at least one scent targeted at female Spidey fans.

    • Emily W says:

It’s a cologne?? But it’s named after a girrrrrl! That just ain’t right.

Let me know how you fare if you decide to try the Black Widow perfume; I’m curious as to what it smells like on other people, particularly those who tend towards warm scents more than I do.

  8. Mindy Newell says:

    Welcome aboard, Emily!

Great column. I gotta tell ya, at first I thought you were writing a satirical post (boy, did I laugh!) Then…”Holy Cow!” I thought to myself. It’s the Marvel Mighty Marketing Machine was at work. UN-fucking-believable!!!!

But, sorry, Marvel, I’m sticking with Flower Bomb, Coco, Fracas, and Beautiful.

  9. south says:

As I’m also a lady who prefers cooler scents, I have to agree with you that a Pepper Pots perfume would be wonderful! I imagine it’d be citrusy and clean. Actually, I’m a bit sad that most scents here aren’t quite unisex, we ladies don’t get much choice. XD; Well, I think I’m going to get Mischief, with it being unisex and well, Loki.

    • Emily W says:

I am all about there being more quality geek perfumes out there. If I see these folks at an upcoming con I am going to advocate for that in person. :)

  10. Nat says:

These reviews were exactly what I was looking for – and now I want Mark VII, Mischief, and Black Widow more than ever. Damn, why does everything cost money? Here’s hoping they stay up for a while so I can get the money for them and buy them! Woo!
