Fox Cancels 'Dollhouse'
All 13 Episodes Will Air
The mixed reviews and poor ratings have led Fox to formally cancel Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse. The second season show, starring and co-produced by Eliza Dushku, is currently on a planned hiatus, keeping it from the harsh glare of the November Sweeps ratings period.
The announced plan has the final episodes broadcast on these dates: two episodes each will air December 4, 11 and 18, from 8 pm to 10 p.m. The last three episodes will air on January 8, 15 and 22 at 9 p.m.
Whedon has been given sufficient notice so the final episodes will wrap up the existing storylines. Summer Glau was recently added to the cast and will play a pivotal role with her knowledge of someone’s past life.
A second season DVD set is expected but no date has been announced.
This marks the second failed series Whedon has produced for Fox, after Firefly. He has yet to issue a formal statement but no doubt it will be heartfelt and entertaining. Meantime, Whedon is also prepping to direct at least one episode of the network’s hit series Glee.

In so as much as I enjoy Dollhouse, I kind of wished Fox cancelled this series last season and continued on with the terminator series Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Maybe Whedon will have some success with another series.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but if we're defining shows that get renewed for a second season as failures, then the word is starting to lose all meaning.
Most shows that are produced don't make it through to the end of their first season. That's a failure. A show that got two seasons is not a failure except in the minds of those who are desperate to see the worst.

Keith, agreed. Firefly was anything but a failure, with a sizable (and still growing!) devoted following to its 14 episodes.
Dollhouse, though, I will not miss. Kudos to Joss for trying to create something meaningful, but it's just not that great a show.

Joss Whedon's shows do not fail, stations such as fox fail to give these show the backing they deserve.I think it is time for Joss to cut all ties with fox and to move to syndication or cable channels that can get behind good shows. look at nip/tuck or Stargate when it began. Network TV is not the place for innovative TV

As much as I love Eliza Dushku and Joss Whedon's shows, Dollhouse was a failure. I understand that Dushku and Whedon wanted to try and push themselves in new directions but this show was weakest of all Whedon's shows. It lacked any real solid characters in the leads since their characters changed every week and the supporting characters were just flat and boring 2D ripoffs of other characters from other shows (including Whedon's) and the show lacked a real direction and even that the concept of the show itself had to be defended in the show!
Sure there were some good ideas, scenes, lines, but it didn't work and I wished it would have worked but this is a show that needs to go. I'm sorry but Dollhouse was a failure.

Fox cancels a decent show? oh, yes completely unprecedented...
I like Fringe too, sure I'll hear that's gone too next week.

My problem with this show is that it reminded of a kids show over here in the UK back in the 60's called Joe90 :)

SyFy, step up to the plate. You throw all your money at Warehouse 13 and endless Stargates; now take a show that already has its sets, stars, and devoted fanbase and run with it. Do 13-episode seasons, do character 'bottle shows', clean up on DVD sales. You're evidently never going to figure out you should have done this with FIREFLY, so here's your second chance...

[endless Stargates;?] Stargate deserves to be on.It goes place-the character evolve.the world evolves. The series keeps track of character storylines and tries follow through.Joss Whedon's sci fi/fantasy/comic meladrama dosen't-complain all you want-the fact his are only partially quality, but mostly suck.I love Eliza Dushku and don't love Joss Whedon's shows,I kind of wished Fox cancelled this series last season and continued on with the terminator series Sarah Connor Chronicles.Yes,it was far better. If you people think Josh Whedon is good writing, well then you just don't a clue and I'd bet your following the Marvel/DC crap, too. And reason to Dollhouse is nake, with tube of gell in your hands, give yourself a hand job.Me I was over at Stargate Universe-minus the gell and hanjob.Besides wasn't the whole done somewhere else ?Oh.It was that Arnold movie Total Recall and I'm it was six other places too.
