I grabbed a copy of the original novel when it was reprinted a few years back. The differences between it and the assorted adaptations are jarring. Garcia is a sadist, far from the jolly fellow of Disney's series. And at the end, the story actually ends - Don Diego unmasks, declares the war against injustice over. Of course, events (like large amounts of money pushed towards mcCulley) conspired to make Zorro ride again, happily.

It's amazing how many of the standards set by Zorro hold fast today when it comes to costumed superheroes.

Henry Calvin was on an episode of Dick Van Dyke, and he did an Oliver Hardy impression that, combined with Van Dyke's uncanny Stan Laurel, never fails to make me laugh.

Slowly but surely, Disney is releasing everyhitng they have. The Scarecrow movies came out recently, and we're seeing more and more of the stuff done for the assorted versions of World of Disney.
I am so getting these.

I just realised that i can still sing the "Zorro" theme.

For that matter, i can still sing the theme from the Richard Greene "Robin Hood"...

(If you can call what i do "singing".)

{That Dick van Dyke Laurel & Hardy bit was the genesis of van Dyke's under-rated film, "The Comic" - he called up Stan to ask permission to do the bit ... and Stan told him he couldn't give it; he didn't own the rights to his own face.}

I've never watched these episodes. I just ordered the 1st season and after reading the review am really looking forward to it. My favorite Zorro is the Italian movie version from the '70s starring Alain Delon. Here's to being free...
