Wright didn't spend his whole career in Montreal. He relocated to Burlington, Ontario in the 1960...s.

"Some claims come with the seeds of their own mocking built right in, and I'm afraid that "Canada's Master Cartoonist" is right up there with "the premier crimefighting vigilante of the Quad Cities area" - it sounds impressive briefly, and then there's a lull while we all wait for the punch line."

This is an insulting and, dare i say, shockingly imperialist way to start a review. I get it - you're American so you can diss the rest of the world's creative input. Very clever. But by using a lead like this you betray a bias that undermines your criticism of the book - and insults hundreds of talented cartoonists, including Chester Brown, Seth, Matt Forsythe, Julie Doucet, Guy Delisle, Michel Rabagliati, Jillian Tamaki - do i need to go on?
Criticism is fine; if you don;t like the book, fair enough. But propping your criticism up with a stale, unfunny bit of prejudice just exposes the writer's own biases. Bravo, Yankee pig!

If you don't think Canadian-ness isn't often the butt of a joke, you must not get out much.

Luckily, I'm from New Jersey, and thus have a highly tuned sense of when a geographical location is being condescended to, honed through hard years of strife and hails of brickbats.

Good luck with all of your endeavors in the frozen tundra, and I hope some day you come back to read the other sentences of this review.

Andrew -
I read your review, but only have issues with your lead. I mean, how can you hope to be taken seriously as a critic when the intro to your review reads like it was penned by a Jimmy Kimmel Live writer?

As is, your review says more about your own biases than the book you were paid to review. No matter where you hale from, that can't be good.
