And the next Doctor Who is...
...going to be revealed in exactly 12 hours from now as part of a special edition of Doctor Who Confidential to be aired on BBC ONE today at 17:35 Greenwich mean time, 12:35 PM Eastern standard time.
Following the announcement in October that David Tennant would be stepping down from his role as the Doctor at the end of 2009*, speculation has been mounting as to who would take over from him for the fifth series of this iconic BBC drama that will air in 2010.
Who do we think will get the job? Well, there's a reason William Petersen is leaving CSI...

Is William Petersen of british nationality or was that a joke?
No offense, but Mr. Petersen's far too serious to play a versatile role as the Doctor.

You're basing this upon CSI?
In terms of being a Briton & appropriate accent, who says he (Dr. Who) is different than Hugh Laurie playing someone from the US?
Just a lot more complex than most people would care to think:
Petersen would then play a part which is performed by someone from the US pretending to be a Briton & has a faked US accent.
What a US accent sounds like is beyond me. I'm accent-neutral (US English)

Hee! I'm glad to see someone else is riffing on the William Petersen notion -- I've been making the claim that he's the new Who since Tennant announced his coming departure. CSI: Gallifrey! Well, the BBC is supposed to be pandering a bit more to the US market, with their LA office run by Julie Gardener.
Seriously, though, I doubt the BBC could afford Petersen for anything, given his salary on leaving CSI. But he would make a fantastic Doctor.

26-year-old actor Matt Smith has been cast as the Eleventh Doctor, as revealed in today's special broadcast of Doctor Who Confidential on BBC One. Smith will succeed David Tennant in the role for the fifth series, which begins filming this summer and will air in 2010.
Smith has appeared in various television productions, including alongside Billie Piper in the BBC's adaptations of the Philip Pullman novels The Ruby in the Smoke and The Shadow in the North. He co-starred in the drama series Party Animals, and on stage was in Alan Bennett's acclaimed play The History Boys.
Smith was born and bred in Northampton, England, and later attended the University of East Anglia in Norwich. He is the youngest actor ever to have been cast as the Doctor in the TV series.
BBC News quotes Smith as saying: "I've got this wonderful journey in front of me where I've got this six months to build this Time Lord - and that's such an exciting prospect." Executive producer Piers Wenger has said that: "It was abundantly clear that he had that 'Doctor-ness' about him. You are either the Doctor or you are not."

I suspect they'd get tetchy if he was played by an American. Think of the snickers when James Bond was played by an Australian.

I think he is a great actor, but does this mean the Doctor will be portrayed with an American accent? I am definitely excited and hope the person will stay around for awhile.
