Barrowman Warns 'Torchwood' Season 3 Softened for America
We're Wimps
John Barrowman told the British press that season three of Torchwood, the five-part "Children of the Earth", was being slightly toned down out of concern for its American viewers.
"The next series is about Torchwood fighting the government rather than just aliens and is a lot darker,” Barrowman said. “Jack has to make a decision no parent - that's a big hint -- should have to make.
"We're not swearing or doing anything close to the bone because it's been a huge success in the US and the networks won't accept it with all that stuff in it."
The actor, known for dropping trou at a moment’s notice, reassured listeners that "I'll still be getting naked and it will still be saucy - but it's done with taste. We'll doing everything so it doesn't have to be heavily edited for the US."
Barrowman added, "I love playing Captain Jack and if I could play him until I'm 90, I would. But I'd rather do a series of 10 or 13 episodes because it's a lot of work for just five.”

If it is a it in America then why are they softening it up? Makes no sense unless they are trying to get it on the Sci-Fi channel. The show is great the way it is. You screw with a finely tuned machine and inevitably it will fail. I love what Mr. Davies does on Dr. Who, Torchwood and the Sarah Jane adventures. They shouldn't change a thing. Leave it alone.

I think it is a shame that great productions such as this need to sanitize for the american networks.
What, we can't handle it? Please...

hellooooo, has anyone seen True Blood?!
Why the hell should Torchwood be sanitized for the US when the US has shows like True Blood?
Exactly who do the PTB think they are protecting? That's just asinine.

True Blood is shown on a pay cable channel. Torchwood isn't. There is a big difference.

I don't recall - does BBC America censor/edit any other of the shows they bring over like Coupling? I seem to recall the Heavy Seven being used on Graham Norton's chat shows, but I might be mistaken. If it's an across the board policy I can accept it. If they're treating Torchwood differently, I think it a bad move.
I have to say, Barrowman just beams charisma from every pore. He's on my "I'm not gay, but" list possibly at the top. Personally, I think if he put on a few pounds of muscle, he'd be a great captain marvel, should that ever come back into the green zone again. He's got a smile that'd light up a room.

Just let me say that I was blown away by Children of Earth. This was an incredible season right from start to finish. I can't wait for it to come to America.

It has been great so far. There were some scenes in the second episode which I can easily believe were edited down for content - Captain Jack's regeneration and also being naked. There was probably more shown in the original airing. In addition, it has been edited down for commercial time, but maybe only a minute or two.
