I'll be honest - I was coming here more for the columns than I was for the comics. The comics are good, no arguing, but you had a greatset of writers who gave the site a unique voice. I don't know what the site will look like come Monday, aside from the comics will be good, and based on the last few weeks, the news items will have a lot more typos.

I'll be sure to keep checking in for new stuff, just not as regularly as before. Since I haven't seen Rick around either, if you need help with the Doctor Who reviews when they come round again, let me know.

Seriously, I'll miss these columns also -- I agree with Vinnie, the columns have been my favorite part of ComicMix as well -- but don't forget, I have you on speed dial, so watch yourself.

Oh, and you're welcome to guest-post at Pen-Elayne any time you want.

Reply
Michael Davis (8:48 AM on Fri Oct 31, 2008)

I'm still back in Sept. with regards to All My Kids (that's what we call it in the hood) I'm writing so much now (two books and a graphic novel) that the only way to catch up is to have it on non-stop while I work. I tried that and ended up writing passages about Tad and Erica in my book on Black people.
So- I'll see what happens. I'm just up to the point where Jessie finds that woman in the hallway and Petey is worried about the Fusion law suit and 'Bella' is making people sick. I will tell you this-I thought NOTHING could make as sick Kendal but that 'army' chick is getting there fast.

To Michael... Puppy pee??? You got stories and jokes, doc! Blow in my ear and I'll follow you anywhere...... Heeey man!!! What the....!! That was just a figure of speech!

On the real serious tip, CM's loss (see above) is our gain. Better put on a large pot of coffee, brother....you're about to receive a lot of company.

Thank you for the articles here on comicmix, it's become my friday tradition to pull up your article, laugh my ass off, pretend to work, lie to my boss about surfing the net, go back to your article, laugh my ass off some more, poignantly think about the topic you wrote about, fake working again, go to the bathroom, call my fiance, and then finish your column, whilst laughing my ass off.

For all that your shared with us the gentle public, for never holding back with your real thoughts, and for giving us all reason to hate the man, lucky b*tches, crazy politicians... and for giving us reason to love asian girls (well, loving them MORE, I guess...) Thank You, Mr. Davis.

Cheers to you, your continued success, and your future patent on the Death Ray... cheers.

I suppose this is a money issue - downsizing, but I didn't know any of the columnists were leaving until Denny wrote his goodbye column recently. I thought it was his decision to leave, but apparently not. Did I miss a notice about getting rid of the columnists, or is it up to each one to tell us in thier final column?

In any case, I'll miss them. As more and more of the comics wrap up their stories without replacements of equal value to me - The Original Johnson being the exception - or any replacements at all.

Soon there won't be much reason to come here as most of the news stories are seen elsewhere. I read them for the comments and the opportunity to discuss the stories, but too often there are no comments which makes discussion a bit hard. Sometimes I try to start a discussion with little to no response. I must be boring. :)

All of this leads me to ask, is ComicMix leading for a shutdown? I hope not.

Geesh, the main reason I come to this sit is now absent! I truly enjoyed the columns, they were insightful and also at times quite humorous. Great way to start off the weekend (not like I'm doing a whole lot at work on a Friday).

It was great how you (Michael) felt open enough to share some somber events from your past. It really helped convey that people can rise above hardship and still retain some level of mirth. Much appreciated.

See - I missed Elayne's mention of the end of all the columns. My cat had surgery this week and I've been called away and interrupted so many times for feeding, scratching, cleaning the wounds and just because she wanted to say, "Hl!" (she is barricaded in a small room, located right next to my studio, to keep her from leaping and jumping and pulling out her sutures). And this was a case of my reading the first few paragraphs and then never getting back to it to finish.

So I had been thinking, "Wow - that's sad that Denny is quitting."

And then I thought, "Huh - what an odd coincidence that John is quitting the same week."

And that's when I went back and finished reading Elayne's column.

This is sad, guys. And Michael, you is funny and entertaining and smart. I hope you keep your weekly schedule at your own site because I'm going to be coming by michaeldavisworld.com every Friday to keep up. And I've got to think you will get pretty good traffic. I hope you sell some ads. Seems like a good way to pick up that milk money. Maybe ComicMix will be able to post a link to your new blog every Friday? Just for old times sake?

And I hope you know you always have a place to rest and visit at the Insight Studios booth - in San Diego or any convention where we are setting up.

For that matter - I'm looking forward to the comics you are developing for ComicMix!

Hey Michael,

Why is it that I had this sneaking suspicion that you were also going to be leaving ComicMix? I was just waiting for the shoe to drop...And drop, it did.

It really sucks that you are leaving the site here. This was one of the few ways I was able to shoot the s#@$ with you, since I moved out to Texas. It reminded me a bit, of our days at the Chariot and Corbin Bowl. We would all be partaking of libations and sharing stories steeped in some serious sarcasm, matched only by some of the more poignant ones when life would piss in our cheerios. Then that would all fade into hysterics when "sexual chocolate" would get onstage and sing "I Need a Negro" or some other bastardized Bonnie Tyler song. That is sorta what it was like reading your blogs here.

You are, and have always been, a one of a kind, and generous, class act. I am so glad to read that you will be doing your own thing in the vast blogosphere via michaeldavisworld.com (consider it bookmarked) and I am really I am amped about your upcoming projects and sooooo looking forward to them.
(sigh)
I guess, now, I will have to bother you on your cell phone again to touch bases :-p

But, in all seriousness...Thank you Mike for being who you are, and being my friend.

I'd like to close out our show here at ComicMix with a few song lyrics that are near and dear to me. It's my favorite song, and seems sadly appropriate here...

"It's a quarter to three...There's no one in the place...Except you and me....
So, set 'em up Joe...I've got a little story... I thin you should know....
We're drinkin' my friend...to the end...Of a brief episode...
Make it one for my baby...and one more...for the road"

KIT
Shane

How do I put this...OH HELL NO! Hey, here's a tip about the cell phone try calling AT NIGHT when I may have a moment to catch up.

I still remember (those who may think these stories are jokes they are not ) when the cops came into The Red Chariot (a GREAT Karaoke bar) and the music stopped while they looked for whoever the fuck they were looking for.

They pointed at me (the ONLY black guy in the bar) and you said "They take you, they take all of us." That was WAY cool and for that I will always have a warm spot for you in my heart. As I said to Mike Gold recently to quote my favorite Vulcan, 'I have and will always be your friend." OH SHIT! SAPPY-remember that time we had to stop those dudes from kicking (can't remember his name...shit) ass? That was fun and NON Sappy! Wait-remember when that porn producer was trying to get my date to act in a film? I still think it was funny when I told him she would do it but he had to pay me...and my gang the Crips. Boy-we found out white men could jump and run that night!

Give me a call Sunday NIGHT. Let's catch up. You sexy bitch you.

Micheal, thank you for your columns. There have been SO many that I have found touching, funny, insightful or informative. Sometimes all of that in the same column, occasionally in the same sentence. You, more than any other writer on ComicMix, understand the "magic" of the comments section. Your column consistently had the most comments because you respond to nearly everyone who comments! That's amazing and generous. That's like an author at a book signing taking the time to chat at length with each fan who comes to the table and personalize each signing. And then after the fan reads the inscription and says something else about it, you say, "Just hand that back, I'll add more to that inscription."

But it's fun, reading the comments to your columns and seeing the diversions the conversations will go down. It's a joy watching all of that evolve. It's also a thrill being part of the "Michael Davis Show," even if it's just a small cameo in the comments. I'm honored to be mentioned in your list of un-official columnists. You might be a hard person to get a hold of by phone or e-mail, but I appreciate the time you've taken with you column, both in writing it and in responding to the comments.

You have made a fan and friend of me, Michael. I will look for your books, movies, TV shows and media companies. And I will continue to read your stuff over at MichaelDavisWorld.com I've got you bookmarked.

Russ, you had me at 'friend.'

Russ here's my official definition of a friend-A friend is someone you can disagree with and still remain friends. It's a simple thing but effective in the way i deal with life. I think the biggest (now I freak people out by going deep) tragedy these days is the lost of real debate, real conversation and real respect for people's views. Man I LOVE a good debate, but in this stupid 'you are either with us or against us world-there is little debate there is only left or right. You sent me a post once where you told me things about myself that were not favorable but you did it with passion and commitment because you cared. You really TALKED to me. That's way I love talking to guys like MIke Gold and Mike Grell. When those guys talk to you they TALK to you. That is the sort of thing that is solely lacking in this world. I'm blessed to have some real good friends. I really don't have a lot, but those I have 'get me' and that's not easy because like Captain Kirk-"I need my pain.' You understood that by reading what I wrote and took the time to 'get me' by schooling me. There is nothing (except Asian girls) I like better. So I am glad to add you to the VERY short list of people I call friend because what you do understand a bit about a good debate and take the time to really listen.

Shit-this is as sappy as it gets but out of respect for you I will try and not lessen the impact by saying something silly about Asian girls.

I'm glad you will be at the site Russ, very glad indeed...

P.S. ASIAN GIRLS ROCK...I said 'TRY.'

Hello, Michael. I didn't know how to contact you otherwise and I hope I don't sound like a jerk for saying this on here but I tried registering on your site and I received the message that my password would be e-mailed to me, but it never was so now I cannot login!

Once again, whitey needs the help of the M.O.T.U.!
