I also like the way Robinson invests his characters with charming quirks. On the other hand, his writing can be fairly predictable. To this day I remember intoning, while reading the first page of practically every issue of Starman, "of course you know it's ALL going to change..." Overuse of certain writing crutches, or leaving an indelible impression? You be the judge! He seems to be a pretty nice guy, though. I'm looking forward to reading those issues of Superman, but at present I'm about 4-5 months behind in my DC comics reading.

Dogs are so cool, it's a wonder people ever caught on.

It's about time there were stories for people who get the concept of being a 'pet parent'.

The downside of being a pet parent is, as i said on Usenet some years ago, thinking back to The Dummy (one of the smartest cats it's been my privilege to share quarters with, who stepped on a rainbow at age nineteen, thirteen years ago, and is still mourned):

"They give us so much, and they don't ask for much in return...

"Just a piece of your soul."

A piece of my soul my dog Dolly can have.

The sad thing is I'll probably outlive her.

I love that Krypto was featured but I wasn't thrilled that they gave him "dialogue" -- and I felt Superman's dialogue -- both the narrative boxes at the beginning and his "Can you hear me, Metropolis?" rant at the end -- were way off.

Martha, again, another stellar column.

But has Krypto been spayed, and if so, who provided the surgical implements? Enquiring minds want to know.
