Torchwood Season Three Starts Shooting
Five Episode Season Due in 2009
The BBC issued a press release today announcing that production has begun on the shortened third season of their series Torchwood. The "Children of Earth" storyline will last a mere five episodes which the UK will broadcast as a week-long event in early 2009. BBC America is expected to air the series soon after.
The release was scant on plot details, merely stating, the team will “battle for the future of the human race against the fiercest force they have encountered.” The story is scripted by series producer and co-creator Russell T. Davies, John Fay (Coronation) and James Moran (Doctor Who) and is being directed by Euros Lyn (Doctor Who).
It also went on to list returning cast members: John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper and Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto Jones. Special guests in the five part series are Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who), who plays the role of Mr. Frobisher – a civil servant who is hiding a terrible secret; Paul Copely (Coronation Street) as Clem – the survivor still haunted by his past; and Liz May Brice (Bad Girls) as Johnson – the cynical covert government agent determined to expose Torchwood.
Shooting actually began in Cardiff, Wales last week and spies in the vicinity have reported seeing Noel Clark on set so his character of Mickey is expected back as well. Freema Agyeman, whose Martha Jones was expected to join the team, was conspicuously absent from the release apparently confirming a rumor from July that when Agyeman signed with BBC rival ITV for a show, she was excised from the story.

Too bad Martha's gone. But at least they have Mickey.

Mr. Frobisher? Is his secret that he's an alien shapeshifter who likes to look like a penguin? Many people who consider an affiliation with the Sixth Doctor to be a terrible secret... :-)
