'Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe' Joker: "Want to see a magic trick?"
Game producer shows off the first fatality from the DC Comic villains
At the Liepzig Games Convention, Midway had revealed the latest characters to appear in Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe. And is cool as it was to hear that Deathstroke the Terminator will be getting his videogame debut (we’re not counting the animated Teen Titans game), nothing beats game producer Hector Sanchez demonstrating the Joker’s fighting moves for the Game Trailers television show.
Proving once and for all that some DC characters will have finishing moves, the Joker shows how to end a fight with style. See for yourself below. (Warning: It’s rated “M” for a reason.)

Curious. The Joker's behavior is totally within character. (See the finale of the No Man's Land storyline or The Killing Joke.) So is his behavior acceptable in comics but not acceptable in other media?

Well its a little different to read the Joker do something and another to step into the role and play it out as the Joker.
Personally I don't have a real problem w/ fighting games but I can see what folks find disturbing. But in the end parents just need to parent their children & most problem can be avoided I don't think I would readily let my 7 or 8 year old read The Killing Joke or play this game.

I can explain that one...
In 1993, Senators Joe Lieberman and Herb Kohl publicly denounced Mortal Kombat for its use of gore and violence; the Electronics Software Ratings Board is formed as a result. Kind of like what the Comics Code Authority did to the industry in 1954 thanks to Frederic Wertham, this time with more expensive toys...

Okay.
Personally, i find those games revolting. If i had kids, they wouldn't play them at home.
But i would *never* advocate banning something just because it revolts me.
If i could and did ban things that revolt me, there'd be no "reality" TV, and showing "The Brady Bunch" and horror-porn films would be capital offenses.

I remember playing the Mortal Kombat games back in the 90s. Fun times. I find it kind of funny how history repeats itself. In the 50s, comics were responsible for juvenile delinquency. Today, videogames. I wonder what it'll be tomorrow.
Do you think that thousands of years ago in Ancient Greece, some people were up in arms about the level of gore and violence in plays and verbal storytelling?

That clip looked great. I thought I read somewhere that the D.C. characters wouldn't perform fatalities. Did I misunderstand, or is it only the super"heroes" who abstain?

Far as I know, it is only the DC villains that will be committing actual "murder". So you can see a death from the likes of Joker, Catwoman, Deathstroke (and Doomsday/Darkseid if my intel is correct), while the heroes will be performing things like "brutality" or "justice-ality" (I may have made that last one up)
