People raised on photoshop could never grasp what could be done with a pair of scissors and some rubber cement. Magazines like Confidential would regularly slap famous people together on their cover who never even met, let alone been seen at a swanky LA nightclub together.

And when it comes to exploitation, modern television news is no better. Radio "Shock Jocks" Opie and Anthony have a regular bit on ther show where they play teasers from the news. Complete non-stories will have the most lurid and terrifying teases, making it seem like the earth would crack in half if you don't watch. The teaser would say "Is the lunch your child is eating at school KILLING THEM?", and the story would be about how the local school got an "A" for cleanliness, making the answer to the lurid question, "no".

Last week they had a teaser that went, "They're on every plane, and they could KILL YOU...what are the airlines doing about it?" The story was about how the airplanes were still serving peanuts, which some people are allergic to, and a couple of parents were suing a couple airlines because they weren't able to make the airplane nut-free.
...I'm just gonna leave that line there, as a gift to the next commenter. use it well.

Vinnie,

In fact I was "raised on photoshop", but I grasp quite well all that can be done with a pair of scissors, rubber cement, and a california type drawer and press. Some art schools still teach in the fine ways of "old school" before turning their kids loose on today's technology.

That aside, a great article Mr. Gold. Makes me think maybe Unshaven Comics' next project should be about yellow journalism... From "The March" to the "Yellow Rag". There's always this pre-disposition to think that news was once clean and completely unbiased. But Walter Cronkite (sadly) is long gone, and in his wake, we have the "always fair" Fox News.

I sent you an e-mail Mr. Gold. Did you get it?
