Based on the previous rumors about Torchwood (the change in cast, the decision to make it more for the Doctor Who audience than the adult audience) I'll be curious to see how different this abbreviated season / long story will be.

With the Doctor Who season reduced to a series of specials, and that I seem recall hearing Sarah Jane will only get a handful of episodes as well, I'll be curious to see if the three shows will be more connected together than they have been, perhaps in an attempt to give the feel of a longer season of Doctor Who.

I had heard that Sarah Jane was going to get another series of 10 half hour shows. Still, not all that much.

I think the commitment is to two series.

I am really sorry to hear that one of my favorite BBC shows will be having this drastically shortened season - while I know that the mini-series arc is a great format for creating powerful and in depth story arcs, I will miss being able to tune in every week once season 3 short run is completed. Torchwood was very important in bringing in more American viewers to the BBC television world - I discovered many wonderful new programs, spent money at their store, and spent money for their Torchwood iTunes. BBC should do more to bring Torchwood to their viewers, British and American - not less - follow the money of Torchwood fans, this should tell them how much Torchwood means to the fans and all the subsidiary marketing outlets -

AAAARRRG!!!!
I've been watching Doctor Who since I was a child (so HA to all you newbies only watching Christopher Eccelston and David Tennent) and I do have say that Torchwood blows them all out of the water. You never see anything that raw in america (damn you FCC) I'm not talking about how blatantly obvious it is for adults (which I do love) There's so much stuff going on, that actually happens in the real world. Western culture is so centered around sex, that it's going to be involved in our daily lives. The drama and the gore totally add the the intensity of the show.

It sucks that season three will only be a five episode mini-series. I hope that that isn't an end to Torchwood, and I'm REALLY hoping that they won't dull it down to make it "kid friendly." In America it is already censored and cut up (though not as much as Doctor Who) thanks to the FCC, we don't need it butched up some more.

I hope they have more Torchwood, and I hope they don't make it "kid friendly." Then what do we have? Some crappy spin-off like the Sarah Jane Adventures. Torchwood could be a stand alone, but after it dulls down, all it becomes is some spin off struggling to stay above water.

I can't believe they're only going to have five episodes. And I really liked that it was more grown up than doctor who, but now it looks like that's going to change which is a major disappointment. Doctor Who is great, but Torchwood is so much better. I'm already depressed about Tosh and Owen being gone, and now they're adding Mikey (who I've always hated) and Martha (who also annoyed me). I'm beginning to wonder if it'll really be worth watching after this.

Probably not, if you really dislike Mickey and Martha. I enjoy both characters and the way they developed over the years, so I'm looking forward to it.

Part of the allure of Torchwood is the unusual (to say the least) relationship between Captain Jack Harkness and Ianto Jones. IF John Barrowman is going to be leaving or only doing TW part-time, where does that leave this particular facet of the series? Yes, it's somewhat controversial, especially in terms of what's "acceptable" in American television, but that's one of the things that makes Torchwood so refreshing and unique. As many like to point out - it's a free country. If someone doesn't like the Jack / Ianto dynamic, then they should pick up the remote and switch channels. For the rest of us - BBC, I demand you leave John Barrowman in place as Jack (tie him down if you must)! We, the fandom of Torchwood, have decreed it!

I have to agree that John Barrowman leaving is going to really mess up Torchwood. Jack adds so much to the program that I think his character only showing up occasionally is really going to hurt the show. I love Doctor Who but it was Torchwood that actually turned me on to Doctor Who. In general I don't like much that comes off BBc but these are two of my favorite tv shows period. I am so disappointed about all the changes going down. I enjoy the adult humor in Torchwood and will miss it. In my opinion fans of both shows are getting a raw deal.

Ok, caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalm down. Barrowman is in the next series-he and Ianto are still a couple, and the only toned down stuff looks to be the swearing.
