ComicMix Releases Trevor von Eeden from 'The Original Johnson'
Press Release: June 9, 2008
The following is an official ComicMix announcement:
ComicMix Editor-in-Chief Mike Gold today announced that the publisher was releasing Trevor von Eeden from his contract to ink his graphic novel, The Original Johnson. Von Eeden has already written and penciled the entire 240-page manuscript.
Gold said, “It was with great regret that we came to this decision. The Original Johnson is a brilliant book about an important man, one who changed not only the world of sports, but the American popular culture.”
The Original Johnson will be completed by either digital delineation or by the addition of an inker. It will debut online at ComicMix.com later this summer, joining work from such notable writers and artists as Hilary Barta, Valerie D’Orazio, Joanna Estep, Mike Grell, Dick Giordano, Frank McLaughlin, William Messner-Loebs, Michael Oeming, John Ostrander, Andrew Pepoy, Robert Tinnell, Timothy Truman, and Mark Wheatley.

What are "clasasic" stories?
Seriously, =he had already inked some pages; I hope these will remain intact...
Mike Gold (12:12 PM on Tue Jun 10, 2008)
I think that's a typo.
And, yes, the inked pages will remain as such.
Johnny Bacardi (12:55 AM on Wed Jun 11, 2008)
Yeah, I figured it was a typo. Sorry, just being a wiseass.
Good to hear that the inks he did get done will remain...

Anyone remember "Thriller"? No, not the Michael Jackson album, the Trevor von Eeden comic. It was so strange and weird and wonderful and went completely to hell when Robert Loren Flemming and then von Eeden left the book. A glorious example of a comic book meltdown and implosion.
What is "digital delineation"? I tried to Google the phrase, but this is the only place that has used it. Is this some kind of automated inking process?
How much of a delay will we see for von Eeden not being able to complete this as a solo masterwork? When was The Original Johnson scheduled to debut? What is the tentative reschedule?
Gene Colan was able to publish some good stuff as pencils without inks, "Ragamuffins" and "Nathaniel Dusk." But he approached the pencils as the finished work. And it's my understanding that's not the way most comic pencils are done. Unless von Eeden has produced very finished pencils, doing pencils without inks will probably not work.

Scheduling is very much in the air right now. Obviously, we want to get this going as soon as possible. It's really a great work. As soon as we've sorted out our options...

Did someone say...Thriller? :)
