Woody Allen and Maniaks!

I found this one over on a DC message board, posted by sarahhargate.

There are some examples of comics meta-fiction, where the author writes himself into the story. Niel Gaiman does that in a Sandman story, illustrated by Dave McKean, in The Sandman Dustcovers.

Grant Morrison wrote himself into the first two years of Animalman. He plays a pivotal role in the plot! John Ostrander killed him in Suicide Squad. A very funny death.

Elliott S! Maggin and Cary Bates wrote themselves into a JLA/JSA crossover (JLA #123 and #124). They actually killed the entire Justice Society! The Specter had to make a special direct appeal to GOD to resurrect them all! Julius Schwartz also appears in this story, but not in the role of God.

Richard and Wendy Pini made appearances in Ghost Rider, but it's just as supporting characters, not really a team up. Jesus Christ was a regular supporting character in Ghost Rider for a while! Ghost Rider was going to accept Christ and be done with the curse of Satan. Editor Jim Shooter did a last minute rewrite to Ghost Rider #19 and revealed that "The Friend" who had been regularly helping Johnny Blaze wasn't J.C., but a demonic illusion, completely changing the storyline of the previous two years! Tony Isabella was pissed. “To this day,” Isabella said, “I consider what he did to my story one of the three most arrogant and wrong-headed actions I’ve ever seen from an editor.”

I wonder what the other TWO wrong-headed actions are! Mike, can you get Tony Isabella to do a guest column? "The Three Most Arrogant and Wrong-headed Actions I've Ever Seen From an Editor."

Maybe I'll have to go scouring, "Tony's Online Tips." http://www.worldfamouscomics.com/tony/

How about a ComicMix Six! The Six Most Wrong-Headed Actions From a Comics Editor!

There was also a Spider-man/Jay Leno story that ran as a muti-part back up in various marvel books one month. I'm sure a google search will pull up something on it.

Here's an article that talks aobut the Jay Leno/Spiner-Man team up.

This article also mentions a team-up between John Walsh or America's Most Wanted and the Outsiders! This deserves to make the ComicMix Six list!

Here's a fun and pretty long listing of crossovers including a section on Real Life People in comics.

Also -- there's a cameo appearance of Conan O'Brien in Marvel's MYTHOS edition of the Spider-Man origin.

It would be nice to know which year the various comics were published. Some can be guessed approximately, but probably only by those who were alive back then!
