I don't know anything about the new reduction of the book, but as for the first one of A People's History of the United States, it was great! I remember to have found it by accident at http://www.picktorrent.com search engine, downloaded and ... couldn't sleep or eat till I have read it. I'm sure with the notes and remarks of the author, it is even more interesting.
