After seeing the two sets of footage side by side, especially with the time stamp at the bottom of each screen, makes me once again reiterate my wish that at some point in time Paramount issues a special Tribbles DVD.
Since it was a time travel episode, the way I imagine it, the DVD would contain the DS9 episode Trials and Tribble-lations with ALL the footage from the original TOS The Trouble With Tribbles episode instead of just the appropriate scenes since you don't have to worry about commericals on a DVD. This is especially possible now with the CGI effects, color, and sound restorations that the Original Series is currently experiencing for every episode. Paramount could also include the original Tribbles episode on its own, and maybe even the More Tribbles, More Troubles episode from the animated series to make the collection complete.
And of course whatever special features could be added to the disc.
Hey, a man can dream, can't he?

And a free tribble with the DVD, right?

The part that's ironic is the basic mcguffin of the plot (pet that breeds out of control) has been used on countless sitcoms throughout TV history They used it TWICE on Partridge family, once on the oiriginal show and again on the animated series that took place in the future. (Yes really. I forget NOTHING, especially if it's pointless)

An all-tribble disk would be a very interesting package. I remember when they had articles about the episode, how happy the SFX folks were when they successfully mixed the first guy into the old footage. They ran a scene from Tribbles, and the producers didn't see anything different. They ran it again, saying "Look, that's Larry from accounting!"

I remember when TNG was forst starting up, Gerrold was hinting that a certain fuzzy parasite might make an appearance. It would be the last scene of the episode, a kid would show off a new pet he got on shore leave, a tribble. The first scene of the next episode would just be Picard yelling "And I want them ALL off the ship NOW!"
