Actually - I thought the Stan Lee interview was the high point of the Ross TV show. Really an amazing moment in this age when nothing unplanned is said in public. And I've always liked Stan - and I think he comes off rather well in the interview. But there it is in a nutshell.

I must be really out of it; not only do I not know the answer, I don't even know the question. But I do know that my husband is probably thrilled that he's now only 2 degrees removed from Jonathan Ross. :)

I got a letter from Steve Ditko once, as a reply from my review of The Ditko Package in the comcs APA I ran, "THWACK!". I had a habit of sending courtesy copies to people I'd reviewed; I never expected to get a reply from any, let alone Ditko. His letter was courteous and appreciative of the good review. At the advice of friend (and Ditko collaborator) Will Murray, I did not publish said letter. But I GOT one.

I also got a note from cat yronwode, giving HER version of a scene from the book. There's a piece where Ditko tells the story of an artist submitting a clean page of hero art, which got re-done and covered in sound effects by an editor. Well, cat WAS that editor. She had requested the change of a single sentence on the page, and Steve replied, "Ditko is Ditko, and NOBODY changes Ditko!"

A couple years later, I worked up the courage to call Ditko at his office in NYC (He was, may still be, listed in the white pages, ("Ditko, S., illustrator", which is likely how Ross got the address) to see if he's appear at Comicfest. Of course he declined, but he was perfectly pleasant to me, and I got a minute of so of talking to him.

Of course, my WIFE has MET Ditko. SEVERAL times.

She worked at DEFIANT, and wrote (uncredited) a couple of the "Details of the Dominion" one-pagers in the Dark Dominon title. And Steve was drawing it. (Yes, my wife has put words to Steve Ditko's art.) And he visited the offices several times, to pick up things and drop others off. So I'm going about him one day, especially about his shying away from the spotlight. She calmly replied, "Well, he didn't seem all that shy when I met him."

I stopped. "What do you mean, dear?"

"Well, he's been to the office a few times, and I never..."

If I could have peeled the corneas from her eyes to search for residual image data, I would have.

Before I met Ditko, my instincts told me he was getting a raw deal from many as to how he was perceived and portrayed by the fan, and more recently, mainstream press. After corresponding with and meeting him, I was even more sure of it. He's a great person, friendly and smart as a whip.

Wow! Great story, and I go by "Ditko Hands" on a number of comic message boards.

I always thought Ditko drew hands that way because they spell out "I Love You" in sign language, but that's me :)
