Excellent review. I just read the book and had similar impressions. Although, I disagree on Gary Panter and CF, whose work is visually strongest in the book, not looking like a New Yorker cartoon or a children’s book. I didn’t find their stories incomprehensible, maybe just little bit abstract, but nonetheless relevant and original.
