Oh, I figure we're all cool as long as the columns and news items are about pop culture in general, with occasional emphasis on comics. And ON THE ROAD definitely qualifies as pop culture. (Let the CM 2.0 people worry about being "all about comics"...) I read the book in college, and it didn't make that lasting an impression on me except I wanted to write like that for about a month or so, just like every time I watch Guys & Dolls I wind up talking all Damon Runyon-like for a couple hours. Kerouac's cadence flowed like water, it was quite a nifty experience reading it. But I do recall thinking "goodness, but men were ever so much freer in those days than women, weren't they" all the way through...
